Seems like an appropriate step.

Just a bit of info on the Fiero E-Brake; The exact same system is used on Porsche 944-68 and 928....So "The Fiero has a WIERD E-brake setup!!!" is total BS...

I had this exact problem on my 86 also. Check the sub frame around the inner tie rod ends for cracks as this was the problem mine had.

I had this problem because the actual sleeves in the front cradle bushings on one side had rotted out and the Rodney Dickman aluminum bushings were able to shift because of this. I never thought it was cradle bushings because they were solid aluminum. Those front cradle mounts like to hold water and rot from the inside out.
Also Re- your alignment, I have had my recent annoyances with alignment shops, I am about to take my WRX to a third shop, and this time it is going to be a speed shop and I am going to pay twice the price but I am sick of all these crappy techs that these regular shops hire. Last shop told me my strut to knuckle bolts were frozen solid when I just took them out and hand torqued them three weeks prior with a liberal anti-seizing. They said "oh yea it's a problem with these older cars". BS!
Hope you get it figured out!

No, no...I meant to replace it, not check it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm starting to wonder if they touched the rear at all, even after putting it back on the machine. I removed one of the wheels to eyeball stuff, and I couldn't see any recent markings on any of the adjustment bolts. I suppose they wouldn't have touched specific bolts if those items weren't out of spec, but.....

Took it back to the shop today. Had the opportunity to deal with the guy who did the alignment last year.
It's actually a series of issues.
1) the biggest, and most embarrassing because I didn't catch it - driver's rear ball joint is garbage. I mean, it was swimming around in there. I was putting pressure on the wrong spots when I was testing. It's no wonder it was all over the place.
2) passenger strut lower bolts loose. Not a lot, but enough to flex. Tightened.
3) passenger front wheel wiggles a tiny bit, up and down. They're thinking it's the steering dampener, I'm not convinced, is that possible?

Steering damper wouldn't do that.
This could be the play that normally exists with adjustable tapered roller wheel bearings.
Not every young person seems to be aware that adjustable bearings are adjusted with a small amount of play to ensure that they don't bind.

driver's front doesn't do that.
I tried adjusting it out the other day by tightening the nut 1/6 turn tighter - didn't help.

Any update? Did you figure out what was causing the problem?
