Dropping the cradle but from what starting point? (Page 3/3)

I really like that...But how do you hold the car up? I used the hoist to hold it up while I moved the engine/pallet......Maybe some chains to the rafters overhead- but make sure they can hold the weight......("What happened to your garage? It's all collapsed!" "Well....I was working on my Fiero and...." "Say no more! I understand completely!")

I'm going to use the 4x4 under the car method to lift it up. I like the idea of using the hoist to lower the cradle onto the cart.

As you can see in the picture, there is a jack stand where the 4x4 would sit. Also a jack stand on passenger side, out of the view of the camera. I added two jack stands to the rear of the car as soon as the engine was positioned under the car.

TODDSTER's cradle cart design sure is beefy. Just finished mine. I used car skates instead of casters. Overkill, but I'll reuse the skates under my cars as they're intended to be used. Anyone planning on building one of these I would suggest using 2x4s. They'll be plenty strong and cut the (wood) weight by 33%.
