Right you are. #6 AN is definitely too small for the 4.9L. Started out on the wrong track but if you read my last post I'm now going with #8 AN line and fittings. If you examine the 4.9L OEM rubber hose that attached to the metal tubes that came from the filter housing they measure about 3/8". I believe that we will be OK. My only reservation is that the OEM filter fittings used a 20MM x1.5 O ring tube nut fitting. I will be using a # 8 AN to 20MM x 1.5 straight fitting (maybe the threads are tapered) . With some high temp thread sealant I believe that we will be OK.. Agree that good flow though the oil cooler is very important. Apparently all of the engines oil supply is routed through the cooler when the engine is at operating temperature.
Some disagree but I like oil coolers.
