Freeze Plug problem (Page 2/2)

Just an FYI, those rubber freeze plugs are not intended for long term use. If you keep it in there, do yourself a favor and tighten it up periodcally.

If you loose it while driving, it will likely overheat the engine.

Thanks, I'll try to keep an eye on it.

Do you know of anything that would be a more permanent fix?

They are not recommended for automotive cooling system use.

The hole that it is plugging can be tapped and a threaded plug installed, providing a long term fix.

I would measure it and see if a standard freeze plug would fit.
If not that, then as Joe mentioned, tap the hole for a threaded plug.
