Yeah, I concur with CarterCarbs here... that device / component has the balance shafts and the oil pump built in as one unit. The 88 Duke is a pretty cool motor with the enhancements they made... but that oil pump you're showing (the Melling), I'm almost positive that's for 84-86 (87?) Iron Dukes. It's identical to the one my daughter installed in her Iron Duke. I don't think you'll be able to use that one. |

Ok. I guess a good follow up question is do they sell a high flow pump for the 88?

Yeah so I was just wondering if there was any sort of high flow version of the two pieces that you linked.

I just tried searching, but all that came back were the oil pumps from the earlier years.
The Iron Duke... in the form that you have it, was really only in GM cars from 1988-1992. The problem is that outside of cars like the Fiero, or some one-off other GM cars, most of the vehicles with the Iron Duke in them were not highly valued cars... so the availability of 1988+ Iron Duke parts is slim to none. They also used this engine in the mail truck from 1987 through 1994... and for almost the entire life of the vehicle (which they called the LLV / Long Life Vehicle) by Grumman, they had your version in it. But all of those vehicles get returned back to Grumman at the end of their life-span, and crushed, with the engines recycled.
So, parts for the 88-specifically are really hard to find. I know that doesn't help... but I would keep an eye out for 88+ engines on eBay. They do pop up from time to time. You can also reach out to all the Fiero used parts suppliers, which should be able to get you some of the things you need. For everything else... you can buy all the rebuild parts on Rock Auto.
But this throws me for a loop...

You're saying that the device quoted above, wasn't found in your 88 engine that you've opened up? As in, under the oil pan? That round screen in the picture is the pick-up for the oil on the 88+ Duke.
Can you post pictures of your engine? I'm wondering if someone swapped in a different motor.
Can you check the year on your block? It should be embossed somewhere on the exhaust side of the engine.

Yes, the 87 block uses a regular oil pump. And a standard type of oil filter. It does have the DIS igintion system. 88 has the force balancer with built in oil pump and oil filter. To replace the oil filter you remove a four inch drain plug from the bottom of the oil pan, then pull the filter out of the same drain hole. jm
