Like not enough clearance from the original machine work to perform the swap ? It spins over easily by hand

spark knock is technically called detonation which means the timing is wrong. you didnt specify if this was a new problem or not or if you retimed it recently

He's probably referring to the infamous Getrag rattle. I don't know what tranny you have... but here's a video of that sound coming from my Formula. It only occurs when the clutch is released while in neutral. When the clutch is stepped in, the sound completely disappears.

there is another sound they can make if especially worn. it sounds like rod knock because of excessive clearance in the secondary shaft bearing

https://youtu.be/y_0buD8wPF0?si=5E_hwFFv5x-dY7hB this is my friends car i sold her. its a unknown condition transmission we swapped in and as soon as we put 50 miles on it it started this wonderful noise. i think we are going back to a 4 speed and not looking back when i can find a good one

Wow that's wild ! Good to know about the trans but I do believe with the clutch pressed in there is no change I can confirm tonight.
I have a 4 speed on the shelf as well btw! I never found all that was needed to make the swap work so I went back with the 5 speed that was original to the car
