engine codes and poor fuel economy (Page 2/4)
Yellow-88 MAY 23, 01:58 PM
Hi

The .2 - 1.25 volt at the TPS is a tolerance. The ECM doesn't see the throttle open until 1.25 volts. The throttle plate should be completely closed at idle and the IAC should be the only way to let air pass it. The throttle body and the IAC needs to be really clean. I personally set set the little lever on the TPS to 1 volt.

Don't chase your tail because that's real easy to do. It's part of human nature.

.35 volts idles perfectly fine and let's the engine rev out Decent. though the poor fuel economy has been getting much worse just like the engine power still with no codes.... was gonna buy win aldl but it's getting worse very very fast and I'm extremely concerned now that something has completely decided to do snafu
it's acceleration is now slower than a iron duke automatic fiero with the pedal to the floor for comparison so something has gone terribly wrong

For the V6, all my experience is based on literally 15 years AGO... not 15 years of experience... but 15 years AGO.... haha. But I had this exact same problem on my Fiero. Fuel economy dropped NOTICEABLY... like... I went from normal fuel economy to suddenly getting like 5 miles to the gallon... but I was also not getting any codes at all either.

It turned out to be my Oxygen Sensor. I replaced it, and everything went back to normal. Apparently, along with some of the other sensors... they can slowly fail and as long as they are within certain tolerances, they'll still operate enough that they won't cause the ECM to shoot off a code.

Didn't you say you were also having issues with the oil pressure sending unit / gauge? I can't remember if that was you... but have you checked your grounds? (I apologize if this has been brought up a dozen times already).

Tps code will set if high of idle is held for to long ,,,

Sense you stated your breaks suck from high speed that’s when the engine doesn’t produce a lot of vacuum,, it’s possible you have a vacuum leak some where ,,, or your booster is going out ,, sadly it’s something that needs to be diagnosed in person ,,,, if you have winaldl or scan tool make video on fuel trim data

Hi

Cartercarbaficionado, you seem to have a lot of problems and with all do respect, you are allover the place. That makes if extremely difficult to figure anything out. Also it's clear that you tend to exaggerate. This part of the forum is not about theatrics or sensationalism. This is where "we" help solve actual problems.

Be aware that this is not criticism, it's critique.

I have checked my grounds and currently the 2 factory ones are adequate for the moment. I will be adding a few real ground straps to a few key areas to try to make the engine and chassis grounded a bit better while avoiding a ecm ground loop. I was told that if I add one from the block to the subframe and from the subframe to the chassis and from the alternator to the chassis it should help significantly, also I did put in a new 02 sensor that I had sitting in my trunk from when I bought the new distributor and a bunch of sensors

a. very unhelpful critique. b. I don't think you understand that there isn't any exaggeration on my part and my v6 is that slow and so far 90% of you have not helped solve a single issue on this particular fiero. not 7 years ago for te first owner and certainly not me. if you want to be helpful then please make a suggestion about why I might be having one of the various issues I've tried to sort into different threads.
c. you try to fix a fiero that has had issues for over a decade with a wiring diagram that isn't correct no matter which one while battling overheating and health issues and then you may make critiques on me.

I believe I've made myself plenty clear.

that is a previous code I have since fixed but is a good place to start, the vacc leak is possible but I've tested it with some brake clean and by clamping the line off and so far haven't been able to find a vacuum leak yet
win aldl is on the list but the car is determined to go back to rotting in my garage faster than I can fix it for right now

I don't know how anyone could take that as a critique. Probably a better way you could word that. He's trying to address a lot of problems at once.

you've been one of the very helpful members as well as Patrick and a few other main ones, btw I'm trying to prototype some brackets for your serpentine belt swap to be more like the stock v6
