⚠️ Doesn't need "modern" equipment to short out a lighter socket. (Let's ignore many sockets are bad from rust etc for now.)
Almost from the start when Casco Lighters became Default Standard Lighter in all US and some Import vehicles... there was many plugs to use it power every kind of crap & to avoid Casco & other Patents or just to be Cheap many plugs Failed sooner not later.

From "spot lights" to a lot more made very cheap even in 60's & 70's they blow fuses or actually cause many vehicle fires plugged into the lighter socket.

I still find 30 to 50+ year old crap products & often still NIB or near so that use the lighter socket @ flea markets etc almost every week. Worse, people buy & except to use this.

Even when have good product, the plugs often have problems & fall or pushed out then not working w/o warning @ minimum.

Now add many to most USB & other adapters not only have iffy plug parts to start with, the electric guts are bad too = to Doggy to Super Doggy (YT @DiodeGoneWild ) but only run on "12v" systems.

Worse, Casco Patents ran out decades ago so now the Sockets are not Standard because made by anyone & have problems too even before full lighter sockets turn into just aux power sockets on most recent & current models. Most aux plugs just have a simple tube for outside & most plugs can't grip that.

If the sockets are "bad," see https://web.archive.org/web...ierocave/lighter.htm
As to Bat Fuse issues w/ some lights On w/ blown fuse, see https://web.archive.org/web...rocave/sneakpath.htm

this is a crappy aftermarket off the shelf unit from autozone so it's probably bad tbh. getting a new oem styled and sized one soon
more pressing Than my interior wiring issues Is my turn signals, I did actually get full use of them back during the day but at night they still are being funny and it's a little annoying using arm signals during the dark when most people can't see em
either
I did make a post about that though

Casco was sold @ most part stores years ago & was same as OEM product but now all are China or other 3rd world made have big problems more so for aftermarket.
Think Casco is now owned by another & no longer make the plug format that Fiero & millions of others have.

Is already hard to get good sockets even from junkyards because many places don't have 20+ years old cars now. Just ship them as scrape often in days max.

In Many areas, the yards can't stack cars as firewood because many places have huge fires @ 1 or more yards & won't allow to keep a lot of vehicle per space available.
That's way before EV that are getting more restricted how & where to store them after a wreck etc. by state/city codes & even Insurance Co. Rules.
