Yes, he's right... that's definitely the brake booster line. I wish I could help more, but you definitely want that connected to a vacuum source. With the plenum and everything back on the engine, it should be immediately apparent. But without it connected, you won't get any brake assist, which will make braking almost impossible.

That and the fact there will also be a massive vacuum leak where that hose is supposed to attach.

OK, I think I know what happened. I accidentally had hooked up a coolant or ac? heater core) hose to the brake booster nipple coming out of the front firewall side of the intake (It's the hose right above the brake booster hose indicated in the second photo i posted)
and i see theres a disconnected metal tube underneath the thermostat which this hose should have gone to.
so i sucked in coolant into the intake via the brake booster port. sound right?[This message has been edited by gregr75 (edited 01-28-2024).]

I've been here 25 years... and this has gotta be a first!

Patrick Im glad to be the first for this erm, rather distinguished award!
Yep i effed up royally here. Again, in my dumbassery and haste of putting the car back together I saw a line and I saw a similar size port and said gee these look like they go together… I am kicking myself right now for What could've been a smooth running car Saturday… Disconnected brake booster hose explains the hi idle to some extent at least.
So… If everyone agrees that this is the problem… whats involved,?
In effort to avoid a major tear down, Would it be possible to just insert a vacuum into the spark plug wells to extract residual coolant (i inserted a longq tip into one if the wells and it didnt come up green). Or can I just pour some oil in the spark plug wells and cycle engine to clear out the coolant…
Can i just change the oil? Maybe drop the oil sump?

Honestly, I'm having a hard time following, I apologize. What I will say though is... like Patrick said, if you sucked in a lot of coolant, you may want to let your engine rest a while (and change the oil). Does your oil look like a chocolate milkshake? I'd remove the spark plugs and let the combustion chambers dry out for a couple of days before trying to piece everything back together.
I think if I remember correctly, you said that you obtained a car that had been mostly disassembled (the top part of the engine), and you're trying to get everything back together... hence "first engine run in 18 months."
I'd highly recommend getting the Service Manual for your year car. https://www.fieroinfo.com/manuals/ (find the year for your car and download it)
If you want the printed version, you can get it from The Motorbook Store http://www.themotorbookstore.com
Either way, it'll tell you where everything goes.
What I think would help a lot though, is if someone on here wouldn't mind taking a SLOW video of their engine, around the engine bay, and showing where everything connects from all the various hoses. This will help you out a LOT. Is anyone on here willing to do this? My V6 Fiero is in storage about 2 hours from here, and it's backed into a non-lighted storage unit... otherwise I'd do it in a second. Anyone else willing to do this and upload it on YouTube for him?

Dont beat yourself up. We have all done something stupid.
Let the engine sit and check the oil make sure it isnt cloudy, milky, white, or brown chocolately colors. Open all 6 spark plugs and turn the motor over with them removed. That will eject any remaining water. Reinstall plugs and wires. Change oil Run Motor

The history on this car is i bought it in May 2022 and was driving and enjoying it until Aug 2022 when i lost the brakes while driving! uphill thank God. brake lines were rotted and leaking and diacovered the cradle was rotted. i removed the cradle/engine/tran assembly from the car and replaced the cradle. Restored/replaced many rear suspension compennets along the way, replaced brake, fuel lines, clutch, shift cables. etc. never did anything to the engine or trans though.
