Overheat question (Page 2/2)

No, I do not have extras of the trunk blowers. When the time comes, I will just get it rebuilt. I have read on the forum that the 88 V6 motors didn't have the trunk blowers. Did I misunderstand or is this true?

It's true... but don't make the ill begotten gigantic leap of logic and think that the '85-'87 2.8s can then do without the trunk blower. Apples and Oranges... apples and oranges.

Why could the later V6 models do without the trunk fans and the earlier ones couldn't? I have never owned a 87 or 88 V6 but aren't they the same for the most part?

Just to save ¢ to $ per vehicle for GM Bean Counters is enough reason to delete anything that won't cause problems under Warranty.

The devil is in the details.

In '88 there were at least two changes made that reduced/eliminated the necessity of a trunk blower. The '88 exhaust crossover pipe is fully encased in an insulating jacket, greatly reducing the heat being thrown off in the vicinity of the ICM and ignition coil (and the engine bay in general). Plus the newer style CS alternator was utilized, which has superior self-cooling (better fan) than the older SI units.

So you're saying that the same GM Bean Counters weren't interested in cutting costs from '85-'87? Sorry, I don't buy that explanation for the question asked.
