List of gold zinc parts???? (Page 2/2)

I've done a lot of work on low mile, pristine Fieros.

The only strut tower plates I have seen that were yellow chromate were on the 88 models.

The pre-88 oval plates always appear to be a gray color, perhaps a nickel-zinc with a clear chromate conversion coating.

The brackets that hold the engine harness and the C500 harness to the engine bay firewall are also
alkaline zinc with a yellow chromate finish.

There is a rattle-can two part paint finish from Eastwood that does a very good job imitating the alkaline zinc/yellow chromate finish.

Any modern zinc/chromate finish will be too bright and shiny for authentic restoration work.

You can get some homebrew plating kits here:

I wouldn't homebrew-dip any high stress critical bolts in acid, such as strut-to-knuckle bolts, because of the risk of hydrogen embrittlement.

Hexavalent chrome still lives on (at least from what I see here in Canada) in shops that focus on aircraft parts. I guess that the aviation industry hesitates to make changes to existing parts that have been proven good.

How accurate of a restoration are you looking for? I have stainless T-bolt clamps for radiator hoses, and I like how they appear, though they're obviously not stock.

As I don’t know Patrick personally, what he saying here is 100% true and great advise. There is a lot of mark-up on parts especially in Canada. Us Canadians have to be smart and creative because I find we are getting royally screwed. Buying from RA is the best solution for us because the prices are the best, the shipping is very reasonable, and for us Canadians, the parts are coming from the USA. To top it off, we aren’t paying custom or duty fee’s. That’s a huge deal breaker for Canadians. And what RA says they sell, is what you will be getting. No BS.

Patrick is right too about the aviation industry.
