With a 36 year old car, who knows what body panels may have been removed over the years and then not re-mounted properly... which could lead to any number of weird noises from panels vibrating and/or banging around.

Years ago I bought my '84 which the previous owner had basically converted to look like an '85 GT. The problem was, so many short cuts were taken and several body panels weren't really attached properly. It took quite awhile to sort through all the issues, which included removing the body panels and front/back bumper covers and rocker panels and plastic wheel well liners etc and making sure everything was made secure from the inside out.

We live in the future. Get your phone out, go for a drive, and do your best to record what's going on, even if you have to enlist someone to hang out to the window to get the best audio. Get samples from both inside and outside if possible.

Post that on YouTube, and link it here. It's very, VERY challenging to diagnose a rattling sound without either being there, or being able to at least hear what you're describing.

Great idea. Thank you. I am hoping to get my son or a friend to go for a ride with me. I'll ask him too record it. I was almost leaning towards a loose wheel well splash shield on the right side. I recall having heard this for quite some time now, but now it's really bothersome. My next headache is removal of the A/C compressor . I'm hoping the clutch is defective and not the compressor.
Cheers
