Nearly all replacement axles do not have this ring.
Go w/o or go to "junk yards" etc. Same ring is used on Many models for 20+ years so shouldn't be hard to find. Ebay and others saying "rare part" is BS.
is there to stop crap getting wrapped around the CV and bind up the axle. Crap may not lock a wheel but can cause a fire.
"junk" wood chisel is "best" to open a gap then pry carefully the rest of the way.

Thank you! I'll remove it since it's not available, and the old axles are fine - for now.

Check your personal messages. I proivided a link to CV Source in Buford, Ga. A rebuilder. If the ring is available, they will have it. They can also tell you if it can be deleted. https://cv-source-inc.business.site/

Thank you!
I called them this morning, and I thought this would be rather quick conversation. Instead, we spent the better part of an hour talking about this, about his industry as a whole, and about GM in general. It was a lovely conversation.
Long story short: there really isn't a way to put on a new slinger. They don't have them, and even if they did, changes to the axle in the last 35 years would make it so tolerances with a brand-new part wouldn't work with the axle shaft, due to loss of material. The slinger is only really needed for an additional barrier between road debris and the inner hub.
He recommended that anti-seize be placed on the axle splines, and that's really all that can be done.

Those guys know what they're doing. They have built lots of custom axles for our Fiero engine and transmission upgrades. I would still lightly sand the inside bore of the spindle to get all the rust out. Clean out the drain port in the bottom of the bore, and smear the inside lightly with chassis or bearing grease Install the spindle seal with the opening turned toward the axle.
Oddly, the last 2 axles I replaced both had that slinger on them and they fit inside the outer circumference of the hub seal. The last one was mid 2020. If you really want that piece on the axle, Rock Auto has them under the brand name GSP. https://www.rockauto.com/en...vetrain,cv+axle,2288
