$30,000 - 108 Mile 88 GT That Sold On BaT Headight Door Paint? (Page 2/4)

It is interesting though that the highest priced Fiero ever sold is an automatic. I believe the second highest was $25.5K and a stick. Personally when I bought my low mileage 88 GT I wanted an automatic. Truth is GM made horrible manuals and great automatics in the 80's.

Yes, the shade of the headlight door IS different.....

Biology says there are coded genetic signals in every cell, but we KNOW that no intelligence created life.

I'm the original owner of a white ' 84 2M4 purchased Dec 10, 1983 from Pontiac. Always garaged, no rust, 4-wheel drifts are fun!

Seems to suggest that GM painted the HL doors at a different time than the hood and possibly the entire body. I seem to recall that the Witzenburg book or somewhere else said that Pontiac painted each car's body panels all at the same time (to prevent this very issue of different batches of paint not matching). This HL door seems to be evidence that that isn't true.

No id suspect something fraudulent with the car. Perhaps it had damage in storage that is not being reported.

I dunno...For that amount of money seems like it would have been repaired correctly had it been damaged.

You guys are making a big deal out of bad video compression.
Look at the way the color on the hood fluctuates as he does the walk-around.

Not sure if the hood and head light doors are made of the same material, but it looks like the difference that can still be seen today in some colors between hard parts and bumper covers which usually have a flex agent to prevent cracking on flexing, as the paint ages. They appear to be about the same color as the bumper cover and fenders.

I can agree with this. The hood looks strange in the video. Take away the front bumper and the headlight door (or doors) and it would still look strange. The video is oddly compressed or pixellated or something, maybe due to the hood reflecting the sky or something. Maybe a polarizer or something on the camera would fix it?

ok fine lets put this one down.

Still image from the BAT post.

Edit

1 more for good measure

I work w/ many types of video and other compression...
Above pic's w/ weird colors very likely is not compression artifacts. Nearly all compression problems don't end neatly at seems and other joints where panels meet.

CAN still have weird colors for:
lighting issues
equipment issues
different panels prep'ed a little different may appear different in person or just in a photo/video even tho has same paint applied at same time w/ same filling of the paint gun.

IOW If you have polarize filters or not, a very small difference or nothing in person may look way different to the camera from panel to panel in direct sunlight.

Even assuming is 100% OE paint from GM on a "low mile car..." Less known fact is GM and the subcontractors used different paints etc for different panels then clear coat on top of that. Because DuPont and others had to make changes to the paint and primers used on front/rear fascias and other panels made of different materials. Clear Coat was designed as final step so everything has same look to most buyers and why is still used on most cars from most bands.

Plus many cameras has issues processing Red to start with likely doesn't help.

And that's ignoring YT and others recoding/reformatting and more problems to have them to host a video or pictures then again to view them.
Most YT videos and others have 3 or more times the source have changes before finally appears on whatever device to view.
