I used GSPs purchased off Amazon for both axles. Rebuilt axles should be fine. I wouldn't worry about this. I don't know if my GSPs were new or rebuilt. A core was not required. Both came with a new nut. I paid $55~ for the driver's side and $85~ for the passenger side delivered.

Grab hold of the axle shaft near the inner tripot and see if it moves up/down inside the tripot housing, or if the tripot housing moves inside the transmission socket.
If it's tight in the tripot, the axle is probably good. If it moves inside of the transmission socket, it could be the carrier bearing that the tripot rides in inside the transmission.
