I don't know what happened to them. Probably in storage back in Virginia with a lot of other stuff I would like to have out here in CA, but don't have the room. My wife is a retired teacher and let's just say she has made major infringements on MY garage space....

You can get rubber ones of those, with aluminum backings and magnets that hold them onto the jaws. Bessey or somebody makes 'em, pretty slick.

Thanks for the info. I will have to check it out. The copper ones I made were really handy and easily removable in case I needed the jaws to really grip something. These sound like they have the same properties.

Nice use of tools. When I did this job I got lucky and found a 12 ton shop press on Craigslist for $80. Funny thing is that the seller contacted a few weeks later asking to buy it back. I declined. Nice to have a press.

Yeah, but due to my wife being a retired teacher, room in the garage is at a premium right now until she goes through her stuff and ditches it. I, too, would like a nice press and some other tools in the garage. Maybe this year?
