Also, if the clutch is not slipping, but is hard to release/shift gears, I would suspect nothing worse than the hydraulics. At least until proven otherwise. If your oil leak is found to be something other than the rear main, I would forego the clutch job until it starts slipping or otherwise misbehaving.

Raydar, you bring up some excellent points. The 35 year old distributor O-ring is probably rock-hard and leaking. And a car with only 46,000 miles probably doesn't need a new clutch.

THANK YOU for the tips...I've passed them along. I wonder if that O ring could be the culprit. I do note a very slight hesitation when cruising along at speed...maybe related to the O ring or ICM?

Those look like great prices. When I lived in the DC area 10 years ago I got quotes from three shops for a clutch replacement - lowest offer was $1500. Ended up doing it myself instead.

I can't comment on the paint work, because I have no experience in that field. But the prices for the mechanical work are very reasonable.
