WOW Fierosound sorry about doubting you, it was a bulb problem. One of the brake light bulbs had been replaced with a single element 1156 instead of a dual element 1157. The single post was shorting the two tabs together. I have owned this car for 8 years and had not needed to change out a brake bulb so at least I can say it was not me. But not noticing it for that long makes me feel like a Fiero fool. I have to apologize again, and thank you for your suggestion.
