Engine tick, gets worse with clutch (Page 2/2)

Well, I'm about 99% sure it's a broken crank. I did some more troubleshooting and reading, and found similar symptoms, then watched a video of one that had a confirmed broken crank and it was the same exact sound. I'm kinda happy and kinda sad to be honest!

And it still runs?

This has now gone beyond my knowledge comfort level... but out of curiosity, where might the crank be broken?

Engines don't run with broken cranks.

Pretty sure its between the 2nd and 3rd mains. Apparently it shears at an angle, so it is still able to transfer rotational force but will be really noisy when the pieces separate (like when the clutch is no longer pushing them together). I think my higher pressure clutch probably is keeping it together longer than a stock setup would.

If you suspect breakage of any type grab your self a piece of 3/4" hose about 30 " long. Put a funnel on one end and tape it in place as an earpiece. Start the engine and try and pinpoint the noise. IMO, it would be a very rare occurrence if your crankshaft was split.

I believe that an engine with a broken crankshaft would manifest itself in an engine that runs poorly. Broken cranks can also cause damage I could be wrong but my guess is a rod knock but anything may be possible with a cast crankshaft. Waiting for the outcome.
