Caliper Leak (Page 2/2)

Ouch on caliper.

New Fluid tends to tan to brown and fast too. Clear fluid draw water and crap off of walls on lines etc. and look "bad" fast.

That said expect to run 1 to 2 quarts thru the system to flush out as much crap as possible.

I would flush lines before you attach the rear replacement caliper(s) because rear hold a lot of crap from lines if you don't. Front calipers can too but not as bad as rears.
Make sure you never drain the MC while working/flushing/bleeding.

Rear is that bad might consider to get a new MC and rebuild the fronts and get new hoses.
Is more work/cost now but likely MC has "rust" etc in areas not used normally and can have seal(s) fail when you bleed or later down the road.

Don't dump used fluid. more so when likely going to have a lot of it.
Find a HAZMAT "dump event" from the State that's often free to residents. Most are on state solid waste or "epa" equivalent.

I shall certainly do so. And some excellent news this morning ... I sent pictures of the broken parts and the pit on the piston to the contact at calipersononline.com and he said he would accept it as a core!!!

Here is a link to their FAQ page on the core exchange program with their address and contact information. Many thanks to Larryinkc for bringing them to my attention. ''All's well that ends well.''

I have said it before; Anyone finding 1988 Fieros in the junk yard should go and get the calipers- even if they are unusable, they can be A) turned in as cores and B) used for spare parts....Do not let these calipers go to the crusher!

Checked on Row 52; One in Sherwood OR (Since July 2...Wonder if there is ANYTHING left), one in Denver CO (Since Nov 15) and one in Salt Lake City (Since Dec 14)

Go get those calipers!!!
