Sheared off the alternator pivot bolt (Page 2/2)

Welp, I was able to get the whole alternator and bracket out through the bottom! It looks like there's a metal sleeve that goes on the pivot bolt that might have been causing problems? Who knows...

It was an extremely tight fit, but I was able to get the whole assembly out through the bottom. Pulley was towards the back of the car.

I believe that steel sleeve is part of the bracket. Did the bolt rust solid to that... as opposed to the bolt getting stuck in the aluminum threads?

That seems very likely... and the head of the bolt broke off.
Wow - that could be a problem separating all that.

GM PN from the P22 Parts Book is # 10028767 - sleeve, generator bracket
It's a floating sleeve to "take up the slack" in the bracket opening and the alternator.

Been used on GM products forever.
Use anti-seize in that sleeve upon reassembly too.

Typical GM pic below. It is Part #8

If that bracket keeps giving you trouble, you can buy a brand new one from the Fiero Store. As those brackets age they corrode and work harden. Broken brackets are common and we've replaced quite a few of them.

Completely forgot to check the Fiero Store. Just picked one up off of ebay for a few bucks cheaper.
