The real trick is to find a paint that's of similar makeup of the substrate you're painting in order for it to bond properly. The lenses are acrylic so an acrylic plastic paint should be self-etching and bite into the tail light material. You can paint anything with most anything and then clear coat it, but if the paint won't bond to the substrate, the clearcoat will come off with the paint. Paint it with latex and clearcoat with anything and it will all eventually peal away because latex doesn't stick to acrylic very well. That's why kgoodyear has such a good product. He's sourced the correct paint for the material.
