Most of the off-the-shelf support beams will not fit the fiero. Strut towers, battery tray, air filter housing, etc all get in the way. That is why I built the support ends like I did.
The DS strut is easy to work around, definitely not worth removing. All your work will be on the other side of the frame rail.
A jack is better than nothing for lifting the transmission back into place, but a cherry picker is better. It is hard to balance the transmission on the jack to get it under the car. Have th3 car high enough to clear, then it is likely too high for the jack to lift the transmission into place.

Yeah, I'm just trying to understand what it's resting on in front. I'm thinking maybe some c-channel that replicates that front section would allow me to use a standard beam.

I made a 2x6” H shaped frame to fit the engine bay. The cross pieces (2) on the H were located over the engine lift holes. Then used chain over the H to hold the engine up. The frame was bolted together and glued. The H frame was more than strong enough to support the engine and trans. The chains also allowed the engine to move slightly to help tilt the engine for trans mounting and cradle reattachment. All very simple. I looked at the available engine supports and found like others none of them work well on the Fiero GT. They might work in the notch backs?
A floor jack helps when dropping the cradle and tilting the engine from under the front (fan belt end) engine mount. I had a friend help lift the trans from above with a rope while I worked from below and to the side when reinstalling. Yes, would be a tough job lifting, aligning, bolting the trans solo unless you have some sort of jack lifting device. Aligning the cradle for reinstall was easy. No problem aligning the engine mounts or cradle bolts, just loosen the mount nuts before reinstall.

Any chance you've got a picture of your contraption?

Here is the one from the Fiero Store. I would think that since the Fiero Store sells it, it would work with a Fiero. At least, I would hope so. [This message has been edited by Formula Owner (edited 08-15-2018).]

We have one like that, but fieroguru's or Kevin's would probably work better. The Fiero really doesn't have a good area for the side leg to rest to keep the bar stable.

Cannot post pics well. Maybe you get the idea or someone else can draw. All very simple.[This message has been edited by Kevin87FieroGT (edited 08-17-2018).]

This is a really a great, informative thread. I love that the OP had so meticulously researched and compared his options before asking for real world experience.
