Rodney Dickman has a short shift kit for the Getrag, and it has an effect on the Shift function only.
So, you may want a longer shifter in the cabin for a slower Select ratio, and then speed up your Shift ratio with the Rodney Dickman kit.
If you decide to play with the springs, for onesies/twosies, I like to purchase springs from Century Spring: https://www.centuryspring.com/
They have a fair selection.

If you decide to mess with changing springs, and you need guidance on choosing alternates, feel free to ask.

Thank you sir. Very much appreciated. I'm going to try the easy stuff (that I didn't think about) first.

Holy revival, Batman! Since I started this thread, I have acquired another Fiero with a T-550 trans. It was a Quad-4 unit that had the bellhousing replaced. I also have an identical (same part #) T-550, that has not had the bellhousing swapped. All were zero--mile rebuilds, or maybe NOS. Came from Jeff Ianatello, of Engineered Performance.
To the point... I also acquired a well-used Fiero Getrag 282, a while back. (Was removed with it's engine, for a swap.) It's sitting on the pallet with the un-modded T-550. The select lever on the "new" T-550 takes much more effort to move than the one on the well-used Getrag. The one in the car is even stiffer than the one I originally posted about. Also has a new RD select cable. I'm perplexed. [This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 07-22-2025).]

Maybe the springs changed between the Fiero 282 and the T550?
If you use a fish scale to push/pull on the select lever, you can quantify the forces involved and make comparisons.

That's a good thought. Thanks.
I suppose I could message Jeff, since he supposedly reworked these things.

Annnnnd mystery solved. Jeff said that he installed stiffer springs to prevent "skipped shifts" (going 2-to-5) when racing. So there ya' go. Unfortunately, it also requires tearing the trans apart to change them.
