Thanks Buddycraigg, It's a v6 with a quick first gear for sure. That's my only complaint. (but while I am trying to get into second the other guy is thinking dang that car is quick) It just got a new clutch yesterday and I am waiting on dogbone bushings before I romp on it. (give the clutch a little welcome home time as well) It does jump to 40mph pretty quick. I think people forget how important gears are. In the old days people talked gears more than hp and torque. Thanks for the info and your great topic as usual.

Wow, great write up!!!
Can anyone point out in the pictures where the drain hole is on the Isuzu?
Is this it?
If it is, does anyone know what size socket it is?[This message has been edited by 86fierofun (edited 03-09-2008).]

I did notice that the 88 case has extra webbing from strength as well as holes in the bellhousing for venting gasses. The arm is very different between the two as well as the fork. Just thought I would throw it out there since this thread is all about the differences in trannies. Any thoughts on this? ...

One thing I'll add... If you have to replace the clutch arm bushing in the 88 Isuzu, it requires the same tool as the Getrag. The 85-87 tool is different.
Rodney sells the tools for all of them.

This is a really good thread. My 88' Formula I noticed right away that I was turning around 2300rpm's @ 60mph. It has the black dip stick on the tranny and metal end cap so it's the Getrag 5spd. I wonder if the 88's had a slightly taller 5th or taller final drive?

Maybe they used something other than the 3.61?
Anyone else notice this on thier 88 GT's or Formulas?
