Can’t Bleed rear brakes (Page 1/3) |

Have 87GT, 2.8 Car was in storage 10-15 years. I have replaced all calipers, rotors , and master cylinder. Using a vacuum brake bleeder Car is on jack stands, wheels off Tried bleeding RR first, no brake fluid came out at all, then tried LR no luck either. I did get some fluid from LF and more from RF.
I have read some previous posts and tried the helpful hints there also. Still can’t get fluid from rear brakes at all. I don’t want to start thinking to deeply About this which would perhaps lead me to replacing parts I don’t have to . I could use some help. Getting frustrated trying and getting no results.
If anyone has been through this and could help solve this it would be much appreciated.
I even tried carefully opening the bleeder valve ever so slightly also. I put a manual suction pump on bleeder (bulb) to see if I could draw brake fluid no results. It appears it can’t draw fluid from MC.
Help anyone.

Just so you know, the LR cylinder is the furthest from the MC on a Fiero.
Did you bench bleed the MC before installing it?

No, I did not bench bleed the MC. What is involved with that?

Ok, I read it. I will bench bleed the MC in the morning. Let you know how it all works out. I guess if not done, then no brake fluid will pass into the brake system. Therefore I won’t be able to bleed brakes at the calipers.
Thank you Patrick

I can't say why exactly it's necessary, only that it is. Let us know how it goes.

I don't think this is your issue, since you are doing vacuum bleeding, but there is also a proportional valve that could be causing problems. It is designed to give all of the pressure to either the front or the rear, should the other one indicate a full failure. There is a little valve that slides back and forth inside the proportioning valve, with a pin that sticks out the end if it is triggered. Sometimes, when you try bleeding the brakes, the valve will think you have lost rear braking capability, and allows the pin to slide for full front pressure. No fluid will flow to the rear if this should happen. The pin needs to be pushed back to reset for both front and rear. This sliding pin also triggers the brake light warning switch. There is a small tool that will hold that pin centered while you bleed the brakes, should you need it.

Which should also trigger the brake warning light on the dash.

Darbsan, Patrick,
Ok, sent for the centering tool. Question for ou: How do you “center” the proportioning pin? I read where the tool will keep the pin centered while you bleed the brakes but if it is “off” center how. Do you get it back to center position before trying to bleed the rear brakes?

Have the hoses been replaced? They can expand and stop the fluid.
