Mamdani, why I want him to win... (Page 1/1)

Some of my friends, even one of my Democrat-leaning friends (who has flirted with the idea of socialism), keeps asking me why I want Mamdani to win. To be clear, this is not a fight I'm a part of. I'm a Florida resident, so it matters not what I think (to be perfectly honest). But one of my friends keeps saying things like this:

"Dude, a lot of people are going to suffer from this, like gifted kids in this instance. It's just not worth it for the political win (and the political win will be real)."

So, this is what I wrote, which I think really helps explain my thoughts on this, and why Mamdani needs to win:

quote
Two things:

1 – First, most Republicans have already left the city, live in the suburbs, or they have their kids in private schools. Those who have their kids in public school in the city, and in the gifted program, are going to be predominantly Democrat (just a numbers thing). Right now, the parents of these affected kids will be doing mental gymnastics to explain away this loss as a good thing… but they’re starting to think… “hmm.” It’s only the start with kindergarten, his plan is to remove gifted and talented from all of elementary school. I didn’t bother to find out why, don’t really care... I’m sure it’s for completely retarded reasons. But this is yet ONE example of many such decisions he will make that will help wake people up.

2 – Second, this isn’t about politics… there is no “win,” here… this will be an abject failure for everyone. This is about “tough love” and learning hard life lessons. I’ve long-since stopped caring about political parties (I think maybe you know this about me). The one thing about total abject failure is that it usually leads to questions. It may not be enough… NYC may turn into Detroit. But we’re in a new era where you can’t hide a false narrative. All eyes are on him, and people will be doing whatever they can to prevent him from being an all-out Socialist… but he will do what he wants. Thankfully, the city commission is also retarded, so they’ll go along with pretty much anything he wants. There will be lots of LGBTQ flags everywhere, statues of radical retards that no one’s ever heard of will go up all over the city… but more importantly, the squandering of finances will lead to a mass exodus. Just in time for me to sell my home in Tampa.

A lot of the wealthier people in NYC live in la-la-land. They’ve never lived anywhere else, but occasionally Boca or Boynton Beach. They’re Democrat because over the past few decades, the decisions they’ve supported in New York don’t really affect them. It’s rules for “other people.” They think they’re helping the “little people” by voting for radical leftist policies. The crime that happens in the other parts of New York… they don’t care because they take the taxi or the specific places they live or go in Manhattan, Battery Park, Tribeca, whatever… they don’t have to associate with those people. But now, Mamdani is literally targeting them, and their lifestyles ... and they're supporting it. This is what needs to happen.

I didn’t come to this conclusion easily… I thought long and hard about it. I obviously have no pig in this farm, so it’s all just hypothesizing. But, this is what needs to happen. If Mamdani loses, it will forever perpetuate the idea that “socialism will work” to this new generation, if only it had been tried. They come up with excuses for all the reasons why it doesn’t work everywhere else… America is mean to the socialist country, blah blah… excuses. This is an opportunity for a major U.S. city (that’s already in significant decline) to experience first-hand, by their own doing and their own votes… to actually experience socialism at its core. I just hope that Trump doesn’t try to do anything to help the city out, and that he allows it to fail.

Yes… NYC is what it is today because capitalism and free trade has been what’s propelled it… but it will survive well beyond Mamdani. However, If we don’t allow NYC to “take one for the team” and show the failures of Socialism… then we risk socialism being tried at the very top. I.E., Bernie Sanders, AOC, etc. It’s imperative these people in New York go through this process, otherwise we may all have to go through it.

… you both know I’m right.

If Mamdani does win, other nearby areas State wide, other US cities, other States can learn from the failures of NYC.

There was a city government that tried government operated grocery stores. They all failed. (, who was that ? )

There was another party that hid behind socialism. Hmm. that didn't end well for anyone involved, lets hope that tough love doesn't extend to those who just want to be friends.

Attempting to use your logic (quoted above), one could use the same logic to suggest that AOC or another member of the "Squad" should replace Minority Leader Schummer. Somehow, I don't see that as a good thing...............................

Schumer has to go, he's not great, and I'm tired of looking at his face. AOC would never be allowed to become the Minority Leader anyway. It would be a bad thing if she won, there's no denying that... but I think the comparison here is different.

We're still talking about farms... but it's a different farm, and a different animal.

Mamdani would be a mayor of a city that will absolutely be in the spotlight. Unlike Detroit, where people can blame the city mismanagement on everything else (manufacturing leaving, white flight, blah blah... all the excuses), New York cannot blame anything... ANYTHING other than Mamdani's leadership. I don't know for a fact, but I'm quite sure socialism will fail here too... and spectacularly. The Democrats can't hide it... this is why so many of them are terrified of Mamdani winning.

I think the following will happen:
- This will be horrible for New Yorkers (again, not my pig, not my farm)
- This will be horrible for Democrats all across the country (they'll look bad, they will own this)
- This will be fantastic for literally every other party and political ideology that is right of socialism
- This will lead to a significant dislike of Socialism, and potentially even a radical pendulum change (unlikely)
