Trump places DC police under federal control, deploys National Guard
https://www.msn.com/en-us/n...uN?ocid=BingNewsSerp
quote | President Donald Trump said Monday he would place the Washington, D.C., police department under federal control and deploy the National Guard, an escalation of federal power in his campaign to tighten control over the nation’s deep-blue capital city.
“This is liberation day in D.C. and we’re going to take our capital back,” Trump said.
Although crime in Washington hit a 30-year low last year, the president in recent days has seized on violence against a Trump administration staffer to cast the city as dangerous, pledging earlier Monday that “Crime, Savagery, Filth, and Scum will DISAPPEAR.” |

Well, something needed to be done. Maybe the President or TN's Governor will look at Memphis also. ------------------ Rams Learning most of life's lessons the hard way. . You are only young once but, you can be immature indefinitely.[This message has been edited by blackrams (edited 08-11-2025).]

No shock here... I fully support this.
I spent many years of my life living in Washington D.C.. I lived in Woodley Park and remember a time (post race riots of the 60s) where D.C. had fully recovered and was a beaming and shining example of a city. You could go almost anywhere and it was still pretty safe. It seems like within the last 10 years, there's been a huge decline there. I don't know why... the most recently time I even lived close to there was in the early 2010s in Maryland.
But I spent a solid 8 years of my life living IN DC or in Northern Virgina and visiting DC every weekend. I've hated to see how disgusting and run-down the city has become. The subway stations... which all reminded me of 2001 Space Odyssey, have become dingy, cracked tile, and just absolutely gross inside. They've pushed out some newer subway cars, but they basically eliminate carpets and change the seats to hard plastic to make up for the fact that people using them are disgusting.
I'm 100% in support of Trump doing this. The city commission has become the most radical-left group of people you can elect... and when you get to extremes like that, they lose sight of reality and become so out of touch that they start focusing on things that make them feel good rather than actually making a difference. I'm also very impressed that he's moving full-speed ahead on this. I'm 100% sure there will be a fight against the city commission, but I know how this will go in the end.

Fully support! Getting old with the daily 'over / under' bet on homicides in DC.

I'd say that I wish they would come to Atlanta, but it would likely only squeeze the criminals out into the surrounding areas.

The decision to deploy the GA NG I believe would be up to your Governor. When President Trump deployed the guard in Los Angeles, he only ordered them to secure and protect federal buildings. As I understand it. They were not deputized the DC National Guard could be deputized to enforce the law, but I do not know if that has happened. In the case of Georgia or Tennessee, I believe it would it would be the governors decision on deployment and authorizing the guard to enforce the law. In that the National Guard is not trained in local law-enforcement I have my doubts that would ever be allowed.

A bit of trivia, I learned today that on a per capita basis, Memphis, is 2 1/2 times more dangerous than DC. I’ve said for a long time that Memphis, was a dangerous place. This only backs up what I’ve been saying.

One of the left-leaning people in the national guard leaked (on Democratic Underground) the memo that was sent to their e-mail. It says they're ordered to report to DC and protect Federal buildings and federal property, and thus relieving the DC police from having to protect Federal property.
I lived in DC for a while, and would visit it also as an adult when I worked for the agency (which was across the river). The DC Police basically protect the Washington Mall, all the monuments, and all the areas in between. They usually have to have cars parked there, even just people sitting there around the Congressional building, etc. By using the National Guard for this, it frees the police up to enforce other areas like Anacostia, South-East D.C., etc...

Listening to a local radio station out of Memphis today while driving, the reporter had done some research on crime stats. Per his report, Memphis is 2.5 times more dangerous than DC per capital. We have a murder rate according to Cash Patel that leads the nation per capita. Yep, I'd welcome the TN Guard in the Memphis area.
In other news, Mason TN will soon have their own ICE holding facility, the facility is a former "Private Prison" that is now not being utilized. It's empty. Mason is about 10 miles from my home. I have absolutely no issues with this. Such a facility will also bring jobs to a mostly agricultural area. I'm all for it.
