The Gospel (Page 1/1)

The gospel is - We are separated from God because of sin, the bible says “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. God in his great love sent his only son born of a virgin who lived a perfect life, to die on the cross in our place about 2000 years ago under Gods wrath. His sacrifice satisfied the justice of God because God is Holy and pure and must judge all sin. He then rose from the dead and ascended to heaven where he makes intercession for true believers. God commands all men and women everywhere to repent and believe the gospel. If we trust in Jesus for forgiveness we will be forgiven our sin, accredited with his righteousness and be reconciled to God to spend eternity with him in heaven. If we reject him we remain in our sin and we will face perfect justice in hell forever.

If you desire to receive Christ, we offer the following prayer as an example. It is not a formula but a representation of what it means to trust in Christ.

“Lord Jesus. I come to you and confess that I am a sinner, that I have lied, thought evil in my heart, and broken your law. Please forgive me of my sins. I trust in what you have done on the cross, and I receive you. I believe that you have died on the cross, was buried, and rose from the dead for my sins. Please cleanse me of my sin and be the Lord of my life. I trust you completely for the forgiveness of my sins and put no trust in my own efforts of righteousness. Lord Jesus, please save me as I receive you and believe what you did on the cross is the only way to be saved from the righteous judgment of God the Father.”

If you have prayed the prayer truthfully and faithfully, then you have obeyed Christ and believed the gospel (Mark 1:15). You’ve done so because God has granted that you come to Christ (John 6:65), worked belief in you (John 6:29), and granted that you believe (Phil. 1:29).

Good to hear from you. Even better when you bring the Good News. Prayed that prayer about 40 years ago.

"Lord Jesus. I come to you and confess that I am a sinner, that I have lied, thought evil in my heart, and broken your law."

Yep... I keep doing this, and he's gotten to the point where he's like, "Todd... we already talked about this, you said you would stop doing that... how many times are you going to keep saying you're sorry?"

A large part of repentance is striving to live a sin-free life.

It is impossible, not course, but the effort to do so is as important as the belief of Christ's sacrifice on the Cross and the Resurrection.

Yes, I tell this to my daughter a lot... Saints are the ones who have been able to live a life as close as possible to eliminating sin, and focusing their life to help others and serve God in one way or another. That's not to say they are without sin... Pope Francis was a bouncer at a night club, and used to beat people up, use drugs, etc., but found his way later in life... and is now the Pope.

Thank you for that.

I have believed in God since circa 1969 but was not Baptized until 1990. I know much about the Bible but do not feed of my daily bread by reading it every day.

Prayer is a wonderful thing yet I am not allowed to pray before meals with family and friends, by my Wife. It seems I make them unorthodoxly, sometimes funny, sometimes for odd requests or thanks. Rarely do I pray for something, my prayers usually are in thanks. However it is said in the Bible "you have not because you asked not".

Who here prays before meals ? "Lord thank you for this food". Do you also pray at the check out counter in the grocery store ? Some before meals I prayed along with, took so long, the food cooled.

I have never understood why people think group prayer is more effective than one single prayer. Even a prayer, the same prayer, day after day. Do people think God does not hear a prayer's prayer. Two phrases come to mind. "All one needs is the faith of a mustard seed". Also "sometimes God says no."

Again 1985FieroGT, thank you. I would be interested in any ones thoughts of my thoughts.
