Jimmy Carter was a decent man. Such a rarity in politics. RIP kind sir.

I knew an older couple that visited with the Carter's whenever they were in Georgia. He was a very good man, God-loving and a humanitarian. We need more people like him in the world.
From a political standpoint, however, he was not up to the task of being a world leader....

I agree with you. He was a good man, had a long life and gave to others. He was not up to the task he was elected for but he tried in every other part of his life to meet challenges for the less fortunate. RIP

Yes. He was a good man. One of the best. And he's with Rosalyn now. (I'm really surprised he lived as long as he did, without her.)
Didn't much care for his politics, though. I've actually read that (paraphrased) he was "too nice a guy" to be effective as a politician. I can believe that.

In politics, nice guys are finished. It's a dirty, cutthroat game, due to the people attracted to the power

I think his motivation to run for the task of being President was to meet the challenges of the less fortunate.
RIP Mr Carter.

The sad truth of the matter.
Too bad that anyone smart and ethical enough to be an effective leader doesn't want any part of politics.

I never really even considered that, but I have now. And I think you are absolutely correct. Too bad there were so many people - even on his own side of the aisle - who didn't want to help him, or outright wanted to sink him, just because he didn't know the secret handshake. (I can't think of anyone else that has ever happened to. )
