The question now is whether America can claw her way out of the abyss.......... (Page 8/8)

I demand that Hollywood produce a blockbuster movie that pays homage to my favorite childhood toy... Meccano.

The only thing I have read about the movie was a debate on whether the actress was attractive. I looked her up, she is average.

But if "both sides" find fault, whatever message it might have must not be very strong. So, that is a plus in my book.

Also, for all my life, Barbie was about girls being girls. To me, that is an encouraging message.

Based on the above, I will give it two thumbs up.

Hahah!!! They were almost all women. I saw a couple of dad's going in too... which was cool. I'd take my daughter to it, but she's much older now and got rid of all her Barbies.

You get a +1 from me on this Patrick. My dad gave me his old Meccano set from when he was a kid, and I integrated it in with my OWN Meccano kit from the 1980s, and I absolutely loved it. I used to build all kinds of stuff. Mine came with a C-battery powered motor, so I could actually build a functioning crane with a switch. I loved Meccano.

Yeah, I'm kind of glad that the two sides seemed to be upset, and that everyone appeared to really enjoy it and be excited about it.

My Meccano set, which dates back to 1961, came with a wind up motor. On the side of the box (which is buried in my closet), it says... No. 4 Junior Engineer

Yes, I still have it!

I believe that Meccano eventually changed over to plastic pieces, but mine are all solid metal. It was a great toy with which to learn how to build mechanical things. The only limiting factor was one's imagination. Much like playing with Barbies, I suppose.

Mine was called an 'Erector Set' with various metal beams and regularly spaced holes for assembly using nuts and bolts.

My mom vacuum-up allots of my hardware....

Meccano bought the Erector brand around 2000 and consolidated its worldwide marketing with its own brand.

TBH, I still use those sets, or did until recently, (and lego-type blocks from the buck store). They are great for making mock-ups of 3-d prints before actually spending days printing.

YUP!

I still have my old Erector Set, part of which I "inherited" from my Father when I was a very young lad, and part of which he bought for me to add to it.

Sometimes I have wondered how many future engineers like me were created when they received their Erector Sets.

I still love the smell of machine oil and old metal parts inside that steel Erector Set case.
