Thank you for backing me on this.
I am pretty sure you mean P.T. Barnum, but no one asked if he had Aspergers.

The leftist obsession on imaginary issues that we all know don't exist or are trivial. Leftist white guilt is one for example that masks their patronizing the issue of race. They are unable to see their own bigotry.

D. Watkins, who is the author of that article in Salon that Wichita just posted, is not white. He's black. So he's a black man who has leftist white guilt? Is that's what's going on here?
Here's the article from Salon: https://www.salon.com/2023/...tentional-whiteness/
"Why author D. Watkins, Salon's Editor at Large, is sick of 'woke' culture" (YouTube) https://youtu.be/ADdRnn-raTk
So D. Watkins is a black man who has leftist white guilt and is sick of woke culture? How does that "compute"..?[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 07-31-2023).]

No he wasn't. Ringling Brothers, Barnum, & Bailey was a circus not a carnival. It did not have a freak show. It had animals, clowns, acrobats, and other wholesome family entertainment.

What in God's name is unintentional whiteness?
Leftists seem, to think that every movie, tv show, or advertisement needs to have completely equal representation of every possible group, every single time ... without the understanding / consideration that not every "group" appropriately reflects that percentage in the United States. I mean, I don't really care when actors are not white... it's silly. What I care about is how good the actor is in the role that they're playing. I also don't mind (for whatever my opinion is worth) if there are shows that are focused on the race of that character, so long as the movie is good. But we cannot have "equality" in everything when the population does not actually represent that. Otherwise, you're forcing it... and then people get upset because it's obvious what they're doing.

And no, I'm not that guy; I genuinely believe that artists and filmmakers can create whatever they want, but I must be cautious of what I expose my daughter to. [She's had three birthdays, going on four.]

D. Watkins in "Salon."
I don't think he would be averse to his daughter engaging with the Barbie movie, after she's had a few more birthdays under her belt. He doesn't say, but reading between the lines, I can imagine D. Watkins "green lighting" his daughter for Barbie when his daughter has become six or seven.

I'm seeing both sides seemingly trash this movie... I really an not sure why. I went to the movies on Sunday to see Indiana Jones, and the Dial something or other... and the movie was fantastic. Also seemingly trashed. I also liked the Crystal Skull when it came out, and thought it was fantastic too.
Again, some people are saying that the Barbie movie is totally woke... I don't know, I'm not planning on watching it because my daughter is 14 and I'm a grown ass man. But now I'm seeing left-leaning people trash the movie too. But I will say, nearly everyone there at the theater was there to see Barbie... I know because they were all wearing pink and dressed up like princesses. Almost no one was there to see the Indy movie. It was only half-full when I went. But I suspect it's been out longer.

What were the women wearing?
People getting excited about a movie celebrating a plastic doll is just sad.

I don't think it's sad. I think it's refreshing, to witness or be aware of. The Barbie doll is a cultural icon. Why shouldn't people pay homage in this way?
It's not for me. But I don't think it's sad that people are engaging with the movie in this way.
