From another thread, but it's quite pertinent to your comment.

And you also like to ignore the fact that the economic downturn was a worldwide issue, and not just experienced in the US.

Yeah, that's the leftoid's news claim. Even though most sane people can see right through it.

My my, Patrick, ... you brought up the term "The Man". Not us.

On me using the word frantically. She called him, and it was immediate after his post, same with Trudeau. You are more within your right to interpret the timeliness of the calls to your own desire.

All of that said, Trump has full authority to impose tariffs, day one, as I explained to you. Are you suggesting that he won't implement them, or are you suggesting that they won't work?

I suppose you'll have to see, but any one someone has called Trump's bluff, they've always been sorry. Sometimes they're even killed by drone strike.

I'd have to say though, Trump doesn't really care about short-term ramifications... he has no term after this to worry about. What I can say though, is that economically, it doesn't take a college degree in economics just to explain how this will dramatically affect Mexico (and Canada) far more than it will the United States.

For the United States:
- It's a very short-term cost increase. If any of the companies (whom are U.S. based, but manufacture in Canada or Mexico, they could potentially ramp up production in the United States, or shift new production back to the United States, at the expense of Canada and Mexico... since it's the United States that consumes these products more so than Mexico and Canada consume U.S. products.

For Canada:
- It would mean an immediate income loss to all the products that are manufactured in Canada and shipped to the United States... cars, car parts, and several other manufacturing. Whatever Trump expects or demands from Trudeau, you can be sure that he will likely relent (border). It's a small price for Canada to pay for maintaining their economy.

For Mexico:
- It would be disastrous. Mexico's GDP is entirely based on the United States. We buy everything from them... cars, air conditioning units, you name it, including produce. As tough as the Mexican president wants to desires to be... if Mexico's economy takes a 35-40% hit (which it immediately would), it would mean absolute disaster for her political career, and she might even be ousted.

Love it (or hate it, as I suspect you do), Both Canada and Mexico will absolutely relent. The United States can buy almost everything from different places around the world. We have a lot of options. It will increase the costs of some products, but by and large, the effect on the United States will largely be minimal. Not going to lie... I'm loving the power that Trump will have to make other countries bend to her will.

And from that you've determined that the Mexican President "frantically" called Trump. You're so used to just making up stuff that it doesn't even faze you when you're called out on it.

I have no crystal ball, but I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if Trump actually follows through on the full 25% tariff on all products imported into the US from Canada and Mexico. IMO, Trump's just blowing smoke. It's all part of the phony-baloney tough guy act, that you and like-minded individuals appear to worship.

Yeah, well... it's extremely arrogant attitudes like that which motivate terrorists to fly airliners into highrise towers. Some people never learn.

Lol, this is great... you're either:

- Comparing President Trump to the 9/11 airplane hijackers

or

- Suggesting that the U.S.A. deserved 9/11 because of our attitude?

Patrick... the next 4 years are going to be stressful for you, I think...

I stumbled across this video tonight. I've never before heard of this fella who's giving his opinion on tariffs, but I think he's bang on.

Can I get some help? Who wanted to bet that President Trump would not win the election?
