That website has been discredited for bias so many times.....

You aren't even good at deflection.

Yes Really.

Nothing they say there is incorrect. Just because you can't handle the truth does not change the truth.

Here is another source that show that I am correct and you are too stupid to accept it.

Too bad you are incapable of internet research yourself. It might keep you from saying embarrassing things like this.

Your search was on 'mob rule', which was not in the quote attributed to President Jefferson.

You are a victim of willful ignorance by believing Snopes.

Start getting your info from multiple sources.

WRONG

https://www.monticello.org/...espurious-quotation/

Variations:

"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where 51 percent of the people may take away the rights of the other 49."
"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine."

You are the poster boy for WILLFUL IGNORANCE. Just 5 minutes of entry level internet research will prove that I am correct. I want to thank you for showing how hard certain people will defend a lie if they want to believe it.

I went to the Monticello website you referenced long before I read your post.
I didn't find the quote there.

I was pointing out that in your link the term 'mob rule' was highlighted in their website.

Whether or no Jefferson said those exact words or not, the words speak the truth.

Just as the saying ' Two foxes and a chicken vote on what's for dinner'.

I'll say it: Direct Democracy sucks. Hell, the Greeks had already started to figure that out. Have you seen the parade of abominations that has come out of the initiative and referendum processes in the states that have them? It's a terrible idea.

I think Republican/Democrat or left/right is a super awkward way to go about viewing this. Neither side is necessarily better served by inexperienced lawmakers or schizophrenic policy, and that's what we're really talking about. Any conversation about how democratic the US currently is, in my opinion, needs to be centered around the electoral system. Of all the things Trump has highlighted that are wrong with our country, I think that is the most significant (though not necessarily in the way he does).

Rather than frothing at the mouth about how secure or compromised our elections are, we ought to be looking at how well they serve the goal of helping enact effective policy. Here's another hill I'll die on: US politics are too combative and identity-driven, and the 2-party system is entirely to blame for it. We could resolve that in short order by adopting a more proportional voting system that has less incentive -and ability- to thumb the scale for any single party.

So question: Why are we going at each other based on economic/social policy in a conversation that could/should be rooted completely in opinions on effective law-making processes and procedures?

Washington warned the country about political parties in his farewell address.

We aren't really "going at each other". This thread was started as an attempt at trolling.

The right is no more against democracy than we are against Ketchup. We just don't put ketchup on corn flakes.

And I am pointing out how easy it is to confirm that Jefferson never said that.

And how shocking it was that you doubled down on being wrong instead of doing some very basic research.

If you support repealing the 17th Amendment then you are against democracy because repealing the 17th Amendment takes the right to vote away from the citizens and gives more power to the government.
