I have been saying it here for years, every time one of these incidents comes up.
Help these people before it becomes necessary to involve law enforcement. All that does is make things worse. Get the family, church or schools involved. Consult mental health professionals. Try being compassionate instead of confrontational. Be the caring person you pretend to be. Don't fake it, make it.
The left sees every tragedy as an opportunity to promote their agenda. Prevent the tragedy, instead. It is not as sensational, but it will advance civilization.
Stop being progressive and woke. Wake up and promote actual progress.

 | | CLICK FOR FULL SIZE | Maine: Not much better than no gun "flag" law.
 | | CLICK FOR FULL SIZE | A state of the art "red flag" law is called for, to bring Maine's underperforming gun safety climate up to the superior level of many other states.
What would a state of the art "red flag" law entail?
A complainant may go directly to a judge with a sworn affidavit under penalty of perjury, to request the implementation of an ERPO or Extreme Risk Protection Order to have police confiscate firearms, based on the concerns expressed by the complainant.
Firearms can be removed from the possession of someone whose symptoms are sufficiently alarming to persuade a judge, without the delays and encumbrances of first having to involve the police or mental health professionals.
After the ERPO has been implemented and firearms are confiscated, the complaint can be reviewed and police and mental health "pros" (professionals) can be brought into the review.
A state of the art "red flag" law is a superior way of implementing FUN (Fierce Urgency of Now) compliance to improve the gun safety climate within the purview of state level governance.[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 03-10-2024).]

I am not necessarily disagreeing with your ideas. I know the "defund the police" crowd agrees with you that someone other than the police should be called to deal with a dangerous mentally ill person with a gun. But, like you, they don't really explain the details of exactly how it is supposed to work.
If I know of a dangerous crazy person with a gun and I call the church and mental health professionals what exactly do they have the authority to do to fix the situation? |

Is this some type of game where you run and hide instead of answering mt question?

You don't want to understand, because the solution doesn't benefit you personally.
We should treat our citizens, particularly our veterans, better than we treat the gangsters, rapists, drug dealers and murderers who your president invited across our border.
Stop wasting my tax money on people who don’t deserve it. If we can fly a gangster half way around the world and give him free room and board in a luxury hotel, we can certainly provide a U.S. veteran the resources necessary to help him cope with life in these troubling times.
