It is not rocket science and unlike a lot of information you can't really "spin" information from a tax return. It is all hard data instead of opinion.
And just look at how many people became smarter than doctors during the pandemic by just spending a few minutes on the internet.

I don't mind setting myself up to be skewered by a meme... or two memes. If I were concerned about that, I wouldn't have worded my remarks in the way that I did.
The significance of my remark isn't so much MSNBC, but the three MSNBC contributors: Susanne Craig, Timothy L. or "Tim" O’Brien and David Cay Johnston.
As regularly recurring guests on MSNBC, they obviously reflect an MSNBC preference, but they're not just MSNBC. They represent the New York Times, Bloomberg Opinion and DCReport, respectively.
If anyone were to click on these links, they would be instantly rewarded with a brief bio or CV-style "blurb" and a recent photograph of these three, respectively.
Perhaps the next "Fred Toast" is already lurking this forum and about to emerge with some as-yet unknown screen name. This could give that person a head start in figuring out what they might want to post about Donald Trump, in so far as his wealth, financial dealings and tax returns.[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 01-21-2024).]

With regard to the thread topic, all presidents and senators should reveal ALL sources of income for a specified period preceding their election. This should be available for examination by any interested party.
I think everyone understands what I am saying (except fred, who doesn't seem to understand anything more complicated than a toothpick).

I want to clarify a couple of things from my two posts above:
#1 - I am not in favor of a flat tax, for very personal reasons.
#2 - I am a strong advocate of the 4th Amendment, but if someone wants me to trust him with the power to make laws, he should offer up proof that he can be trusted.
Before you ask, it is none of your GD business.

For the Flat Tax... I personally think it's a horrible idea.
I can't remember the whole story, and it's been a while since I've addressed it, but there are two brothers who wrote a book that deals with the Fair Tax (essentially, the flat tax). It seemed like everything was a big push to buy their books.
Never the less, I bought the book and really dug into it. I had a slight bias against it from the beginning (to be fair), and after going into it, there were several things that I keyed in on that really made it seem like a bad idea.
To be completely honest, I can't remember half of the points I had on the fair tax, but the biggest of these was the fact that it would immediately "decimate" (if you will) the buying power of people who have savings. There are a lot of people who have saved a ton of money, both pre-tax AND after tax, and you're immediately now re-leveraging a tax on them that they saved their whole lives to not have to deal with. And I think that was another of the points... it dramatically (negatively) affects retirees more than anyone else.
That's right... it's starting to come to me now... it also has a dramatic effect on the poor. The cost of milk (that whole thing)... everything is now going to be significantly more expensive for poor people ... who already don't pay any tax.
I'm concerned that it would create a whole system where people go to Mexico and / or Canada to buy stuff so they pay less taxes. Almost like a black market.
I had a laundry list of complaints against a flat tax...

NO NO NO
why do you think it cute to twist my posts for the cult and 1%ers
flat tax is a scam to reduce and transfer the tax on to the workers and off the upper income class
I favor graduated tax rates with far less gimmicks tricks and scams for income and a wealth tax on top to tax untaxed wealth like stock art or real property

While that may be true (and it is). Why was there only one charge when there was something like 7500 tax returns released?
Seems to me the DOJ let him off easy. Wonder why?
Prosecutors said Littlejohn went through great lengths to steal the tax records undetected, exploiting system loopholes, downloading data to an Apple iPod and uploading the information on a private website he later deleted.
| quote | Reyes was also critical of the Justice Department’s decision to only bring one count against Littlejohn.
“The fact that he did what he did and he’s facing one felony count, I have no words for,” the judge said. Prosecutors argued that the one count covers the multitude of Littlejohn’s thefts and leaks. |
