Precisely! I started paying into SS at my first "Official" job. Paid in for almost 50 years. I have no doubt I would be better off had there been no SS to pay into and the government allowed me to invest that money myself. But, that wasn't an option. I retired just as soon as I could, I want as much of that money back as I can get and I plan on living well past 100.
Reference the economy and my personal situation, I'm no where near being wealthy but, I'm in much better shape than most. My home and all my assets are paid for. I do have one debt but, only because Kubota offered a 0% loan, a good sale price and caught me during a weak moment. But, that's it. The economy and inflation have caused me to adjust what I do and how much I go. I love to travel and canceled my trip to Billings, MT for a rally just because of the cost of going. I have to prioritize if I want my decreasing 401K to last into my later years. We can do (pretty much) whatever we want to do but, I think it's stupid to continue to live like there's no tomorrow and not plan for the future. I am concerned for future generations but, other than vote for Conservatives and invest for future generation's education, I don't see much else I can do. My crystal ball quit working when I retired.
I also don't understand why approximately 40% of the nation thinks Biden (and Congress) is doing a good job. IMHO, that 40% are simply people who don't want to admit they were wrong the last election cycle. The dumbest thing I've seen was passing those huge spending bills and not expecting inflation. Well, that and that Defund LEOs Giving out free money and to not expect folks to take advantage of it instead of working for it is like chumming in the Gulf and not expecting a feeding frenzy. Absolutely stupid.
