I agree that college cost are too high, but the reason can be traced right back to the bills passed by liberal congresses over the past decades.

One tenent of any civilization is that if you borrow money, you pay it back.

Do you have a problem with paying what you owe?

dude feelings

really feelings

I thought only the liberals had feelings

most debt is less draconian and can be bankrupted out of
and no an education is not a car
how many doc's or other useful people missed out on advances new ideas ect
because they did not have the funds or credit or lucky sperm tickets ?

Question wonder and be wierd

In 8th grade (1992), we had Russian exchange students come over for 4weeks. 10-15 or so of them with their chaperones. Same age as us. They were over 2years ahead of us as far as skills. They mopped the floor of our best preppie Math Olympiads (sons and daughters of PTO going teachers who taught in other towns).

And it's not about spending. Every class room had 3-8 Apple computers in them depending on the class.

In 11th grade (1995), same thing. But they were from Germany. Same experience. Mostly every REAL subject that is core to youth learning. But since this was a trade vocational high school, they couldn't grasp electronics too well (then). The smell of fried bread boards during those weeks filled our shop on a daily basis.

It's not about the $money$ and school funding. It's about THOSE WHO ARE "TEACHING" THE STUDENTS and WHO back them. Who might that be? Are you not proud of that CON-TROLL.

Why are more foreign 1st generation LEGAL immigrant students more successful? Do we not spend more per student then any other country?

They only REALLY care about themselves.

It's becoming rather apparent that Conservatives may be blessed with better logic skills.

What authority does Biden have to "forgive" student loans. Congress has the power of the purse, not the President. Wouldn't he need some kind of law to support this?

Hasn't stopped him from issuing any of his other executive orders (some of which were so obviously out of order they were almost immediately stopped by federal judges)

God this video makes me so damned mad. I'd forgotten about this.

It also made me remember what happened after the 2007 housing crash.

I bought a home in 2003... I could barely afford it. But I knew among all else, the most important bill was the house payment. When I bought the house, I was 24... I was still basically a kid... and I knew the seriousness of my responsibility. I made sure I made that payment every single time.

The house behind me was nicer than mine, very nice house. A couple bought it near the height of the housing bubble. At the time, Florida allowed you to look at all documentation on the Property Appraiser. They had everything, even signed mortgage contracts. Everything was scanned in. I could see that the person who bought that house was a couple... an elementary school teacher, and a janitor. They absolutely had no business buying that house. They completely could not afford it.

We had a hurricane come by (Wilma?) and it blew down one of their fences. Since they have a huge pool, it's illegal to have the pool exposed because kids can drown. I guess my neighbor called code enforcement on them, and (apparently others had too), and they complained to code enforcement that people were being racist and that's why they were complaining.

A year goes by... still isn't fixed, but whatever, not really my problem and I don't particularly care. But I found out they stopped paying their mortgage. It's almost 2009 now... and I check the property appraiser website again, and they did another Quick Claim Deed, and the bank had FORGIVEN almost $300k of their loan. This isn't the bank that took the hit, it was the Federal government... the taxpayer. The taxpayer PAID FOR $300k out of their loan for the housing debt forgiveness bull **** that was going on.

Now, these people came in... bought a house at the highest point, and the taxpayer bailed them out to the point where they now owed LESS than I did on my house which I bought almost 7 years earlier.

The only solace I took in this is that they only paid their mortgage (after this) for 4-5 more months, and then squatted for 2 years until the police finally evicted them.

What kind of bull **** is this? I really do try, I swear... but I'm getting tired. It's finals week, and I have a lot going on at work... but what the **** is wrong with the Democrat party? It's constant non-stop completely insane **** . I can't take this **** anymore...

The rest of the free world can't defend themselves.
The rest of the free world has 1/4th the economy we do.
The rest of the free world does 1/10th the research, innovation, and development we do.
The rest of the free world comes to the United States to get their college education
The rest of the free world comes to the United States to have specialized health and surgeries performed
etc... etc... etc...

Perhaps... but I think a lot of people support "X" in the same way that someone supports their favorite sports team. At a certain point, it doesn't even matter what the topic is anymore.

I have a lot of friends who are Democrat... some of them are borderline Communist and others who really like Socialism. But with everything that's gone on, most of my Democrat friends don't like Biden at all, and more and more they're losing interest and siding with me on things like the Ministry of Truth, or Elon Musk buying Twitter... so there is hope. But... YMMV...

The reason student loans are so out of control is because of government intervention.

  • The school gets money through student payments
  • Students make these payments through guaranteed government-backed loans
  • Students don't do a price/value calculation, because the loans are guaranteed
  • The loans are based on the price tag, not a raw number
  • Therefore, schools can raise prices with virtually unlimited ceilings, and students will continue to accept the terms, and the government will continue to guarantee the loans.

It's absolutely insane that we're now considering "forgiving" these loans that only benefit those who have gone to schools they couldn't afford.

You agree to pay that loan, you should pay that loan. This isn't even about me, it's about right and wrong, but I chose my universities based primarily on cost vs. outcome. I would have received marginal improved utility by going to a different undergrad and graduate program, but I elected to go to cheaper alternatives that were "close enough" that I could still bust my ass at and get good outcomes from. My responsible decision to do that would now be punished as others get their loans removed.

I paid my way since 18 years old, everything. I took out loans, and I paid them off. What a slap in the face to be told that I could have just made minimum payments and been better off.

I don't think they'll do it. If they do, I think it'll be capped at $10k. But I hope they don't do it at all. They need to fix the entire concept of guaranteed government-backed student loans. They need the loans to be eligible for bankruptcy, and they need to educate high school students better on long-term consequences of voluntary contracts. Nobody is forcing them to take out loans. When the money stops trickling in, the schools will need to adjust their prices down.

I couldn't agree with you more.

I hope they don't forgive one single penny.
