This is actually something really important and "key" that you've picked up on. This was not really a discussion point until just a year ago... we all generally considered people coming across the border who are not citizens, and didn't already have a green card or VISA issued to them by a consulate or embassy ... as illegals. The exception would be that we considered some people as "refugees" who came from war-torn countries. Specifically, in U.S. law, refugees are people who:

"...is unable or unwilling to return to his or her home country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution due to race, membership in a particular social group, political opinion, religion, or national origin."

Under no circumstance is there such a thing as a provision for "economic refugee" in our current laws.


But on to the point I want to make. Lately, and really just within the past year, the Democrats have ... once again, tried to change the language. This is one of the tactics they always use to change the narrative when things aren't working for them. You can tell who's a radical leftist because they jump right in and support the change in language. In this case, they no longer refer to "illegal alien," even though there's nothing offensive about that term, it's a legal term, and alien does not mean "from outer space." Illegal means that they did not come through legal channels.

The Democrats now define all of these border crossers as "migrants," and consider them all "refugees." The overwhelming vast majority of them will likely be denied refugee status. This is (in part), why most of the court cases have been issued out years... and decades in some cases. This new claim that Democrats have been pushing that "congress needs to do something!!!" is more of this nonsense. We were doing just fine under Trump when we simply blocked the border and forced people to come in the right way. But Democrats put into that bill everything from a change in language as to what a refugee constituted, as well as hiring of more judges and border patrol people.

But for what benefit? This is where it gets totally ridiculous. This law that was pending did absolutely nothing about "stopping" people from coming across the border. It merely sought to hire more border patrol agents to process them as they came into the country, and hired more judges to adjudicate their refugee status. It also sought to spend MORE taxpayer money (which we do not have) to fund transportation, lodging, and alleviate some of the burdens that many of these Democrat states / cities are dealing with as they're overrun with illegal aliens.


Defense 1 for dealing with the backlash, is to change the language. And while Fred won't come right out and admit it, he's trying to be slick by circumventing what he views as an illegal and what he views as a refugee. With the exception of some of the people coming from Haiti over the past month, none of these people are refugees.
