23-1/2 years ago, I was not married.

You have no worries Patrick. No need to save face. You did not say Canada would cave.

No Patrick, I have been a student of history since before you were born. As a history buff, I know that multiple and varied sources of information are prerequisite to seeing truth, and the evening news is seldom a reliable source due to biases, no matter if it's conservative or liberal.

Expand your sources and wear your headgear on the ice.

Is that right? What year do you think I was born?

You're younger than I am.

For you to be an actual "student of history" (let's say starting at 12) since before I was born, you'd need to currently be about 82 years of age. I very much doubt you're that old.

Not that facts have any relevance in P&R, but the tariffs were to take place tomorrow, the 4th.

If you don't think that Trump's "negotiation" tactics have damaged the US's relationship with everyone involved, you're only deceiving yourself. Whether or not this damage is permanent remains to be seen.

Most of us (Americans) already believe the only reason the US gets any respect is due to the strength of our military and the almighty dollar, they want it. Much of that is our fault, buying friends is simply stupid. So, losing the respect of countries that are only friendly due to that almighty dollar isn't such a big deal. They'll come back around once they get some more US dollars.

I do think that if another national emergency occurred in either Canada or the US, the other country would respond with aid. I don't believe Americans see Canada as an enemy, I do believe that Americans don't think Canada is pulling their share of the load. But that doesn't equivocate to a lack of assistance in time of need.

I can't speak for how citizens of any other country feel, but most Canadians feel that Americans are part of their extended family. Most of us have friends and actual "blood" family in the States. Perhaps the feeling isn't reciprocal. Perhaps Canadians are sentimental fools. Whatever... Trump is doing his best to extinguish those warm feelings that have been extended across the border for over a hundred years.

I'm not 82, yet, but my interest in history started much earlier than age 12. I was reading at a 6th grade level in 2nd grade, and being an only child in a military family, books were my refuge. Kids stories and fiction weren't interesting, but books about the past were fascinating. They still are.

Well, you've been reading the wrong books then, if you honestly believe the "Liberal crazies" in Canada wouldn't again open up their homes to stranded Americans like was done in the aftermath of 9/11.
