"Just accept it." was the stoic approach to "You forgot to post it!"
I could have said, "Don't be Zeno phobic."

I've never been that "into" philosophy.
I guess it just seems too far removed from the present... the immediate... the concrete... the tangible.
I do think of myself as having an Existentialist attitude and pattern to my thoughts.
| quote | Existentialism is not a philosophy, but a mood embracing a number of disparate philosophies; the differences among them are more basic than the temper which unites them. This temper can be described as a reaction against the static, the abstract, the purely rational, the merely irrational, in favor of the dynamic and concrete, personal involvement and engagement, action, choice and commitment, the distinction between authentic and inauthentic existence, and the actual situation of the existential subject as the starting point of thought. Beyond this the so-called existentialists divide according to their views on such matters as phenomenological analysis, the existential subject, the intersubjective relation between selves, religion, and the implications of existentialism for psychotherapy ...
Insofar as one can define existentialism, it is a movement from the abstract and the general to the particular and the concrete ...

I posted that a long time ago on "OptiBoard."
Now that I look at it again, it does seem like an outstanding example of a "word salad."[This message has been edited by rinselberg (edited 12-11-2023).]

Old Joe... you posted a link with a couple of sentences. What did you want for us to specifically talk about?
"I'm all in" as Rinse has said... let me know what aspect of this you'd like to discuss, and I'm down with it.

Well, that is your philosophy and you know what Hamlet told Horatio.
You can choose not to define it, you can choose to ignore the views of others, but philosophy just is.
Philosophy is a map of the universe from the perspective of one man. It can be a treasure map or the map that DeSantis had in his coat pocket the other night.
When I was a kid, we had an encyclopedia (maybe World Book). In the section on the ocean, there was a series of translucent plastic overlays one could peel back one by one, showing life at progressively deeper levels. If you choose to spend your life on the pier, your world will be covered with what the seagulls leave behind. Again, your choice.

Here we have "Ole, Joe's Dad!"

Oh, and the thread title has had Olivia Newton-John echoing in my head all afternoon. Curse you, Immanuel Kant![This message has been edited by williegoat (edited 12-11-2023).]

You moved the goal posts.
It has been interesting. For those seeking mind expanding intellect, they will find it.

I just can't take this article seriously.
It is a joke to claim that the line "all men are created equal" is an example of a "self-evident" truth when it was written by slaveholders.

So, by logical extension, you don't believe in the Declaration of Independence? We should still be part of the British Empire?
