They're not an investigation / law enforcement agency, it's an unarmed civilian spy agency that specifically deals with foreign intelligence and works with the special operations branch of the U.S. military. If the CIA had been involved in spying on a US person, this should be a really big deal, because it means constitutional rights and authorities were violated. |

Stanley Karnow made these claims in this 1983 book "Vietnam; A History". Don't know if they are substantiated by any official records.

Ray, are you talking about me? I don't even know who this guy is... I was just concerned about the CIA comment there. The CIA has... issues, we'll say... but they have nothing to do with domestic policy or domestic agenda. That is entirely on the side of the FBI... that's what I'm saying.

There's a "romanticism" about glorifying what the CIA does... but the CIA has a very clear and defined role, and it does not include anything domestically. It's an immediate disqualification for me on anything when someone says the CIA did so and so in the United States. People tend to point to the CIA for everything, but it's just not what they do. They're neither equipped or even have the qualifications for it. It's a bunch of suits that do not carry weapons, and have no law enforcement authority whatsoever. They can't try to show their IC badge to an officer when they get pulled over... that's a quick ticket to the county jail.
If someone says the CIA did "x" in the United States, it's immediately worthless conspiracy... outside of anything that deals with spying internationally (working with Air Force on new spy planes, etc.).
