Fortunately, this is becoming more and more obvious to the non-political. What they do with this knowledge is important. There's a great many people who would be OK with it... and teaching young kids that America is inherently flawed and bad is the way to get people to be OK with getting rid of it.

I spent en entire year a few years ago just paying off student loans. |

They seem pretty convinced that they're going to be able to do it...

I told my four kids when they were in 6th grade that I was not paying for their secondary education. They were encouraged to participate in after school and community activities, study and get good grades, and apply for every scholarship, grant and loan they could get. The rationale behind that was simple - your education will benefit you. The skills you develop in high school and the community will help you with your career and secondary education.
They all went on to school, and each one told me that telling them what I did and when I did was the best thing I could have done for them, as they took their secondary studies seriously - because it was their money they were spending.

My dad was paying for my college degree when I first moved out of the house. He was even paying for my apartment. After the second semester, I dropped out of college, and my dad told me that I was on my own. Not in a mean way, but said... "Love you son, but you're on your own."
Which was the best thing he could have done. I got a roommate, and got to working. I went back to college as a much older adult like ~10 years later.
I am paying for my daughters college education, or at least will. I'm saving with a 529, but she gets literally straight As... every year in a row for like 4 years now. So I don't mind it at all because she works very hard and has a lot of ambition.

Was college $25,000 a year when they went?

Oldest graduated high school in 88. Youngest in 97. None of them had much in the way of loans, as they had scholarships and grants. I don't know how much it was.

If this goes through the value of a degree will be nullified. I want my money back for what I spent on my two kids education and I'm sure my wife would appreciate a reimbursement check for her degree.

Millions of young people are being taught by the Brandon administration that their signature on a legal contract means nothing.
Millions of young people are being taught by the Brandon administration that if enough of them run up enough debt and enough of them complain about their own debt, a Leftist government pandering for their votes will wipe out their legal contractual obligation.
Millions of young people are being taught by the Brandon administration that commitments mean nothing.
.
Millions of the rest of us are being taught by the Brandon administration to NEVER loan money to young people for college educations via our government and for us to do that by electing people to Congress to pass laws eliminating the government's ability to loan our money to young people who have been taught that a legal contract means nothing.

There's a reason they don't teach nor divulge much into money and money management K-8 or 9-12.
They just want to teach: If you have 2 dimes and you find 12 pennies on the baseball field. Then your LGBTQ+∞ (1/4 Indian 1/4 filipino 1/4 Irish 1/8 Martian 1/8 Venusian) best friend gives you a dollar and a quarter. How much money do you have? *Bonus sticker* for those who can answer the best friends race!
Then in highschool 9-12, they make it a little more complicated. What does the above equal in yen (¥) , then transferred to British (£) using the rate/value of the (£) from October 9, 1956. And with bigger numbers.
Whoop-dee-do.
Again there is a reason. We are a capitalist country, but money and capitalism isn't taught to the extent it should.

We suffered on getting other things over the years to make sure that the student loans (on a degree I didn't use beyond the first year of having it) were paid in full as soon as we could. I could have taken the lazy route and just paid the minimum for the next 30+ years. Especially since the minimum payment was lower than the interest meaning the amount owed was growing with each minimum payment.
If the Government is going to forgive Student Loan debt, then it's just a slap in the face to everyone that paid theirs back. Everyone that did the "right thing" and paid on loans will be a fool for doing such. "Forgiving" the loans doesn't just forgive the loans of people who took useless classes. It also forgives the degrees of Doctors and Lawyers. These are professions that we've been told for generations need to charge more because the licensing and education are so expensive. Think those services will become less expensive???

How would you feel if you bought and paid for a new car, and then the government started giving away new cars, just like the one you bought and paid for?
I agree that college cost are too high, but the reason can be traced right back to the bills passed by liberal congresses over the past decades.
One tenent of any civilization is that if you borrow money, you pay it back.
Do you have a problem with paying what you owe?
