I never said California was "unimpeachable." California could likely do with some changes so that more freshwater from rains and snow melts can be captured and stored, instead of flowing out to sea. That doesn't change the science of human attributable global warming.

It's an attitude that cliffw is expressing, that looking at the flaws in the way that California has been doing things somehow negates or undermines the science that identifies human greenhouse gas emissions as "El Jefe"—"The Boss"—in terms of explaining the recent and continuing global warming.

Where's the logic in that? Does cliffw think that all climate researchers all around the world are somehow beholden to the State of California?

Not at all. Do you think your presence on the planet does not effect the pristine state of the Earth ?

"2 degrees, 40 feet: Scientists who study Earth’s ice say we could be committed to disastrous sea level rise"

A new report details that ice sheets are melting quicker than expected and that the world will need to ramp up its climate efforts to avert disastrous sea level rise.

EXCERPT

In the [new report from the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative], the scientists argue a rise in global temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius [above the preindustrial baseline] would force many to flee coastal communities.

“We’re displacing millions of people with the decisions being made now,” said report author Julie Brigham-Grette, a geosciences professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

More than 60 scientists contributed to the report. Many are experts in their specialties, and some have worked on past reports for the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the world’s leading body on assessing the climate crisis.

In the IPCC’s 2021 report, scientists estimated that sea level will rise about 0.9 to 3.3 feet (0.28 to 1.01 meters) by 2100, but also said those numbers didn’t factor in uncertainties around ice sheets like the ones scientists have been probing more deeply in the past few years.

New studies suggest that melting ice sheets are a greater cause for concern than the IPCC had considered.

“Many ice sheet scientists now believe that by 2°C, nearly all of Greenland, much of West Antarctica, and even vulnerable portions of East Antarctica will be triggered to very long-term, inexorable sea-level rise, even if air temperatures later decrease,” the new ICCI report says.

The new report also outlines how the declining mass of mountain glaciers threatens hydropower supplies and endangers drinking water sources, how [thawing] permafrost could intensify warming by releasing massive amounts of methane, and how polar waters are becoming increasingly acidified [by absorbing human CO2 emissions], which threatens the survival of shell-building creatures like krill and crab.

But there's one "guy" that's anticipating this "monster" sea level rise with great pleasure:

Again ? We are 1/4 of the way to the end of century since this grift started. Sea levels have not changed. Have you been told about any cities losing elevation from sea level ?

The Global Warming unicorn farts are starting to smell bad. Why didn't you tell us about all the wind farms that have been canceled ? Why didn't you tell us that to recharge an EV battery costs the equivalent of $17.00 per gallon for a refill on an ICE vehicle ? Why didn't you tell us about the 4,500 car dealers who wrote Biden saying the EV vehicles are piling up on their lots because no one wants to buy them ? Why didn't you tell us that the $750 million that Biden included in the infrastructure Bill, two years ago, to purchase charging stations has not installed even one charging station. Why didn't you tell us that Congressional democrats are signing Bills to kill Biden's EV mandate for EV vehicles ?

You have some 'splaining to do !

  • Global average sea level has risen 8–9 inches (21–24 centimeters) since 1880.

  • In 2022, global average sea level set a new record high—101.2 mm (4 inches) above 1993 levels.

  • The rate of global sea level rise is accelerating: it has more than doubled from 0.06 inches (1.4 millimeters) per year throughout most of the twentieth century to 0.14 inches (3.6 millimeters) per year from 2006–2015.

  • In many locations along the U.S. coastline, the rate of local sea level rise is greater than the global average due to land processes like erosion, oil and groundwater pumping, and subsidence.

  • High-tide flooding is now 300% to more than 900% more frequent than it was 50 years ago.

  • If we are able to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, U.S. sea level in 2100 is projected to be around 0.6 meters (2 feet) higher on average than it was in 2000.

  • On a pathway with high greenhouse gas emissions and rapid ice sheet collapse, models project that average sea level rise for the contiguous United States could be 2.2 meters (7.2 feet) by 2100 and 3.9 meters (13 feet) by 2150.

Offshore wind energy development for the Atlantic seaboard has taken some big "hits" recently—but not a complete wipeout.

Long Island slated to "plug in" to first offshore wind energy by the end of 2023—now just 3 weeks away.
