That's 'the area' :P The rocker panels are basically gone... So.... They're technically not rusty anymore! XD

But, in honesty, yes I misspoke a bit. I'm perhaps a bit too excited about this car for my own good. But it runs super nice. I've got most of the rear end rebuilt. I'm trying to decide how much I want to deal with the body panel rust... I am thinking I'll wire wheel it, and give it a simple coat of spray paint to give it SOME protection. But I guess I wonder how quickly it will spread if I don't...

The rear suspension is wild... It has a fiber transverse monoleaf suspension setup.

Patina?

Not many mid 90s cars out there without it.

I would love see pics of your metal handiwork.

As for spraying over the rust, (or wire wheeled rust), get yourself some stuff called cold galvanizing compond, it will help and at least take a while to rust thru visibly. But once rust starts it doesnt stop.

Well, I haven't done any forging just yet... I may not actually have to... But here is my new sub-frame and trailing arm mount, hilariously overbuilt. The tubing is 3/8" thick, and the plates on the side are 1/4" thick. The rest of the car will be rust and dust while these parts still exist :P

I'm bolting them through the floor, and having a 7"x4"x1/4" plate of steel inside to sandwich it to. I'll then weld it all up just for extra overkill. There's a transverse crossmember that the fronts will be welded an bolted to as well, so I should be able to use these as jacking points, too. That's the idea, anyway...

I have to replace the transverse monoleaf in the back too... My spring looks like a chewed on popsicle stick. But I pulled a new one from the salvage yard in about 20 minutes, and only paid $40, so pretty minor thing n.n

I didn't think about cold galvanizing. We sell it at work... I AM going to use POR15 on my door, and wheel well, where there is just minor surface rust, so I can stop that in its tracks and keep the good parts from dissolving.

Pretty crazy stuff.

I like POR too, make sure and use their metal ready first and at least 2 coats of the paint. It woudl be nice to get something inside the door too maybe thats where to shoot the cold galv.

thats either genius or insanity, and im betting on genius!! great car for $300, the engine runs, thats worth the price right there.
