I have owned 3 wranglers, first one was a 95 YJ se 4 cylinder 5 speed, the second was a 00 Tj sport with a 4.0 straight six automatic, and the third I still have which is a 89 sahara 4.2L 5speed.. which is currently getting a 5.3L Yukon engine. Tjs and Yjs are all a lot of fun but the TJ rides like a Cadillac compared to the YJ. If you are planning on getting one make sure you get the hard top with hard doors.. I have been robbed in every jeep but the sahara (which has a hard top and doors). If you get a YJ stay away from the 4.2 engines, though they are reliable they eat gas like a mo fo. Make sure you get one that has fuel injection the carbs on the earlier models are problematic.

We had a 98 TJ. It was a Sport with the 4.0 and a 5 speed.
Had a hardtop and full doors. A/C and cruise.
I wish we still had it.
The only things we ever had done to it were a front driveshaft replacement (under warranty, for a squeaky universal), a radiator, and an exhaust header. According to the Jeep forums, the headers all crack, sooner or later. I replaced it myself. Was not a lot of fun, but wasn't too difficult.
The antifreeze was crap. Worse than any Dexcool experience I've ever had. I had to flush out the heater core several times. It never hurt the engine, however.
In ~100K miles, we were only on the 3rd set of tires. Good Year all terrains that came on it, stock.
It drank gas like a V8. Not surprising, since it had the aerodynamics of a brick.

mine with 124K miles and a dented oil pan made a 1500 mile trip from PA to TX... not one problem aside for the oil pressure sensor gumming up and telling me I had low oil pressure the whole way. im not saying it was comfortable but it did it... lol we cant all be lucky and fine one with cruise control like rydar
