When doing a powertrain swap IMO its good to consider parts availability, preservation of trunk space and cost/ease of repair. I don't believe that that big V12 meets those requirements. I chose the 3800SC swap. Yes it an old engine, dated design but if you get stuck on the road most fixes are easy, parts easy to find. Also one member with a 3800 turbo posted a 9.87 1/4 mile time at 147mph. Didn't think anything better was needed on my ride Whichever way you choose to go good luck with the project.------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. HI Dennis yes the 3800 is a great choice but i am sure you saw my build Audi A8 My Fiero . the W12 is not long like a V12 as it is basicly 2 VR6 engines so it is about 20 inches long due to the W cylinder layout and the 0B1 trans has its axles way forward of the trans i used in the v8 audi build plus i like doing things other wont so i have a one of a kind i do not know of any who has done a Audi V8 swap other than me.

I will only say - WOW!
| quote | Motortrend The W-12 was essentially two VR6s next to each other and sharing a common crankshaft, for a total of 12 cylinders, 5.6 liters, 420 hp, and 392 lb-ft.
The W-12 A8 finally came to the States for the 2011 model year in 6.3-liter, 500-hp form.
Bentley gave it something new: a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W-12, specially tuned by and for Bentley and hand-built in the same Crewe factory that produced Rolls-Royce Merlin engines for World War II-era Spitfires and Hurricanes. In its first incarnation, Bentley's W-12 delivered 551 velvet-lined horsepower and 479 lb-ft. What was really remarkable was that said torque was available, in its entirety, from a mere 1,600 rpm
We experienced the W-12 magic on our very first drive of a GT in the U.K. "The Continental GT accelerates 0-60 in just 4.3 seconds," we wrote in our October 2003 issue, citing Bentley's estimate. (We would later officially time it to 60 in 4.5.) But those numbers don't convey the linear sense of that acceleration …
The W-12 would grow and mature; today's version makes 626 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, and the true last-of-its-kind variant powering the $2.1 million Bentley Batur increases that to 740 hp and and 738 lb-ft. |
