Just watched you tube on a Chevy atlas 5 cyl. By nivlac57 and was wondering if that engine would fit in a Fiero?

A lot of people put larger V6s and even a bunch of different V8s into the Fiero, and they all fit in a transverse configuration (stock). The only issue with the 5 cyl is that it's a little long. I think it's a 3.7 liter. It's also a DOHC engine, so it's taller too. I think the issue would really be the length (width in the car) of the motor. It would be longer than say, adding another cyl to the Iron Duke (if that was a thing)... it's effectively longer than say an LS1 V8. You do have a little bit of room there, but you'd need custom drive shafts, and would probably want to recenter the engine / transmission in the rear of the car to make room. The L6 version would probably be too long.

There were also 2.8 and 2.9 liter 4 cylinder Atlas engines, that could probably be made to fit. But at that point, you could have an Ecotec, which already has been done. Probably not worth reinventing the wheel, for less horsepower.[This message has been edited by Raydar (edited 09-03-2025).]

Over the years a variety of engine swaps have been done with Fieros but using the GM engines with the standard FWD bolt pattern seems the easier route. ------------------ " THE BLACK PARALYZER" -87GT 3800SC Series III engine, custom ZZP /Frozen Boost Intercooler setup, 3.4" Pulley, Northstar TB, LS1 MAF, 3" Spintech/Hedman Exhaust, P-log Manifold, Autolite 104's, MSD wires, Custom CAI, 4T65eHD w. custom axles, Champion Radiator, S10 Brake Booster, HP Tuners VCM Suite. "THE COLUSSUS" 87GT - ALL OUT 3.4L Turbocharged engine, Garrett Hybrid Turbo, MSD ign., modified TH125H " ON THE LOOSE WITHOUT THE JUICE "
