Three and a half hours of tyre changing.... (Page 1/1)
Frenchrafe JAN 05, 11:30 AM
If anyone is interested to watch me change over 4 tyres (tires) on my Fiero? I did a "livestream" this morning - you're welcome, or you could just watch paint dry.
(Paint drying is probably more interesting, no?)

Rafe, since you had the common decency not to record this in the vertical orientation , I thought I'd watch the video. I figured that playing a 2 minute and 37 second video back at 2x speed would be painless to endure. What a rude awakening I had when it sunk in that this was actually a 2 hour and 37 minute video!

Anyway, I watched quite a bit of it. Couldn't you have at least done one wheel in English? lol As you can see in the screen capture below, the YouTube automatic English text generator leaves a lot to be desired!

One reason why I was watching the video, is because I have the same manual tire changer as you have, in bright red. I bought it a dozen years ago... and have never used it. After watching you wrestle with yours, I don't regret my decision (after I bought the tire changer) of simply using different sets of wheels for different sets of tires. It's one of the few luxuries I allow myself.

Here's what I have (and don't use) for anyone who's unfamiliar with a manual tire changer. (Current price - $120 Cdn)

How well do you find that the bubble wheel balancer works balancing your wheels compared to having it done professionally with a dynamic balancer?

Thanks Patrick for boosting my YouTube stats

Yes, it is physical to use this type of tyre changer. But I'm nearly 60 now, and doing this stuff keeps me active.
Yes, having a 2nd set of wheels would be good. But I don't, and there are never any Fiero wheels up for sale second hand in France.
(I will probably get some VAG steel wheels and try to "band" them myself to have the right width.)

The bubble balancer does a good job. I don't have vibration issues with my cars. It does take a bit of skill and practice to get the weights just right.

For the crappy YouTube translation, that made me laugh!
OK, during my future "livestreams" I'll speak in both languages from time to time.

Cheers,
Rafe

What... you mean you didn't actually say "See my fish". lol

What I actually said at that point:

"Tu vas arrĂȘter de me faire chier!"

Which translates as:

"You're going to stop pissing me off!"

Sorry for the bad language, but it was quite hard to pop the tyre back on.
