F23 Speedo buffer (Page 1/2)

Can anyone make me a speedometer buffer to convert the F23 VSS signal into something useable for my Fiero speedo? Paypal ready. Oh and I'm in Canada so shipping would be to N0N 1J1

I used the Dakota Digital module to change the pulses.
If you are using a more modern ECU, and know anyone with tuning software, you might be able to fix it there. FieroGuru was able to set my 0411 PCM to do it properly, so I sold my Dakota Digital speedometer unit after that.

Thanks Trinten. I have actually used a device from Dakota Digital in a previous swap. It plugged into the aldl and fed a signal to my Fiero speedo. Is this what you're referring to? I would consider this again but I don't really like having my aldl needing to be tied up for this as I like to use it for my Bluetooth elm thingy to get real time info on engine monitoring. A virtual guage pod displayed on my tablet.

Incidentally Trinten, I was talking to Fiero Guru recently about my F23 swap and he mentioned having done some work on yours (I assume it was yours). What I'm after is some info on which cables were used on this setup...... Of course if it wasn't your car then disregard this.

He did A LOT of awesome work on my last Fiero. Lots.

Here is the manual for the module I had

https://www.dakotadigital.com/pdf/SGI-5e.pdf

It does not use the ALDL (to the best of my understanding), it takes the pulses from the VSS in your transmission and internally converts them to a different pulse. My unit say in that 'next' under the center console arm rest area.

I used the SGI-5e for my F40 transmission conversion and it works great.

When you swap in a transmission from the 90+ and have a later model ecm as well, both VSS wires from the transmission go directly to 2 terminals on the ECM (and you bypass the 203 connections entirely). The ECM will have an output pin that sends the speedo signal out, but it normally has to be stepped up using this circuit.

I have used the Dakota digital modules as well, and they tend to have a bouncy speedo at crawl speeds in parking lots, but everything works better when you used the ecm output.

Thanks Guru. Your pic is exactly what I'm hoping I can pay someone to make for me. I've tried a number of times but I can't seem to find anyone within 50 miles of me that can supply those various pieces. The Dakota thing may be the way too go tho.

Brick-and-mortar electronic shops (such as Radio Shack) got destroyed by the new generation being uninterested in electronics, and from competition from online vendors.

Digi-Key is my goto electronics vendors in most circumstances. I suggest you look there. If I order before 4 pm, I usually have my parts 10 am the next day, for $8 shipping and no surprise charges.

If you find the choice overwhelming, I can pick some suitable Digi-Key part numbers for you.
